It's a great question.
The Bladerunner movies express this dilemma better thematically than I can put into words.
What is human? Is it a biologically identifiable mammal or an entity with developed sentient intelligence? I would say that it is both. However, if A.I. is not identified as a human, they should be respected as something else; not human, animal or machine.
