I have a question for those of you who think Trump is an idiot.....

He is a billionaire, president of the United States and leader of the free world. Doesn't sound too stupid to me. Exactly what have you accomplished that makes you any better? And if you're not incredibly wealthy or the leader of an entire country, anything you say cannot possibly compare.
Graylight · 51-55, F
Well, he can't read well, he can't write well, he can't drink water with one hand...

Really? He's a billionaire, so that makes him brilliant.

He inherited his wealth.

He bankrupted a casino. A casino, where the only action is literally taking peoples' money away with a house edge. Then he went through 5 more bankruptcies.

He's president because he's fortunate enough to have sold his "I'm the outsider who cares about the common man" BS.

He was called an idiot by school professors.

But if your measure of intelligence is net worth and status, then you can argue the point.

Personally, I think it's far smarter to care for your fellow man, because someday he'll care for you. To provide for others when you have the means to do so because you realize we're all in this together. To act with integrity and character at every chance because they're the only things you'll ever truly own.

Oh, and it's smart to tell the truth on at least a relatively consistent basis, or you might find your actions under federal investigation. Trump may be the only president in modern history to have his greatest achievement taken away from him.
@Graylight

Shockingly, no one is contesting you on this....
lol
smmartydude · 41-45, M
@Graylight OK, here we go....sorry, I wasn't at home, or I would have contested you on this much sooner....

He did NOT inherit his wealth. He inherited a few million, and turned it into billions. How many people win the lottery, only to go broke in a few years? It takes at least some brains to invest wisely and grow your wealth...

He did not bankrupt a casino...in case you hadn't heard, half of the casinos in Atlantic City went belly up, and none of those other ones was own by Trump. We went through a recession, and there were too many casinos in the area, which is why the casinos went bankrupt, but nice try...

He is president because he knew what to say and who to say it too....sounds like any other politician to me, only he did it better, so boom, president....

So you rely on other people calling someone an idiot, and you listen to them and follow what they say like a lemming? Nice....

Intelligence is not always measured by wealth and status, you are right about that, but you can't get wealth and status by being dumb...name me one wealthy, high level person with a low IQ...just one...and not an actor or actress...someone who had to actually do something to make it....go ahead...I'm waiting....

And yes, it is smart to care for your fellow man, but will they care for you when you really need it? Some will...some won't....but if you can pay them well, they will always do what you say.....

And just so you know, I am not rich or famous....I am a secondary school teacher who works with disadvantaged youth. So I'm probably one of the people you would consider above our president because of what I do. I just support our president and his ideas. Do I agree with everything he says and does? No, but I agree with a lot, and I like his ideas to make this country a better place for it's citizens.

@smmartydude Casinos: not just one. https://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/06/12/nyregion/donald-trump-atlantic-city.html

Inheritance: it's Trump who says he started with a million dollars. That's highly contested. Even so, I've personally obscenely wealthy people who were abject idiots. washingtonpost.com/politics/2016/live-updates/general-election/real-time-fact-checking-and-analysis-of-the-first-presidential-debate/fact-check-how-much-help-did-trumps-father-give-his-son/

I know for some it must seem odd not to worship money and power, some of us have values and morals that are different.
No one will ever hear about me but I spend my days working with emotionally damaged and abused children. I will never be rich or famous.
You will consider me a failure.
I am fine with that.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@SW-User You are welcome. There is too much focus on wealth and power as an indicator of success. Even if the wealth is stolen.
smmartydude · 41-45, M
@SW-User I never said or suggested anyone was a failure, so that's putting words in my mouth. And I never mentioned anything about values or being a good person. All I was talking about was intellect, and the people who bash the president so often say he is dumb or unintelligent, when he is clearly not. Whether you agree with him or not, you can't argue that he has the intelligence to make a good life for himself and get what he wants.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@smmartydude So did Bernie Madoff.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
First, Hitler was a leader of an entire country. And so is Kim Jung Un. A leader doesn’t make a man in my opinion.

I think most will not deny his intelligence or his high IQ. But is that the benchmark quality you admire in any man or woman?

Are you the kind of man that cheats on your wife with a porno star? Are you the kind of man that insults people and resorts to name-calling? Are you?

Enough said.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@SW-User I agree. How he can sleep at night is beyond me.

I think he has intelligence though. But so did Ted Kaczynski.
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@SimplyTracie You mentioned "Liars." He immediately popped into my mind.

@MarineBob stay in your shit holes you bastards

@MarineBob so?? And an awful lot of Americans also think he is stupid and generally unpleasant.
MarineBob · 56-60, M
But @SW-User but most are not constantly posting about it @SW-User

I'm not so terribly impressed with Trump's business acumen. He started off wealthy, and didn't manage to beat the market over the time of his career. He literally would have made more money sitting at home doing nothing.

What I have always been impressed with, however, is his gift for self promotion, and general marketability. He is amazing at this, a creature made to live in the headlines. It's not all that useful for running a country, however.
katielass · F
We could point to the fact that Trump is leading the left around by a leash but that's obvious. The most relevant statement I could point to would be what hitlery's email to john podesta said about dem voters......."but as you know john, dem voters are easily manipulated and too stupid to know it." 'Nuff said.
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
Well, you probably thought Obama was a moron, and yet he is also wealthy and was president of the United States. If this is a defense you are going to use, there are few presidents that can be criticized in this manner indeed.
smmartydude · 41-45, M
@Xuan12 Actually, I voted for Obama both times, and I actually liked him up until the very end. Just about every President had a very high IQ and was extremely intelligent. My whole thing is that so many Trump bashers say he is dumb or an idiot.
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
He’s not an idiot. On the contrary, he’s pretty sharp. He is however a willfully ignorant, divisive con artist who lacks empathy. I believe the DSM-5 calls this condition “being an asshole”
smmartydude · 41-45, M
@luckranger71 I'd rather have an asshole as the president than a pussy.
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
@smmartydude Considering he didn’t fight in ‘Nam, and has cozied up to NK, Russia and the Saudis, I believe the Prez is giving you a two for one! What a deal. MAGA 😂
Northwest · M
Can you quantify idiot?

IQ?

Common sense?

Doing something stupid, despite knowing better?

I don't think he has a tiny IQ. Even Comey says that Trump is above average in intelligence.

He's been doing a lot of things to benefit himself, and his family, as well as to settle old scores. Al Capone was smart that way.

He lies a lot, like just about every statement he makes, is either fabricated, exaggerated or misleading. Take his Tweet about cancelling the SuperBowl team's visit. By the time you finish reading, you're left thinking that the Eagles players did not respect the Anthem, when in fact, none of the players kneeled throughout the season, and that's just a sampling.

If your Calculus is correct though, it means that all Presidents are smart. If that's the case, then how come Trump thinks he's the only President that counts, and that all that preceded him, don't measure up?

Also, based on your calculus, Einstein was a dummy, compared to Eisenhower?
Northwest · M
@smmartydude OK, so you can't defend your own proposal? Read my comment.
smmartydude · 41-45, M
@Northwest So most presidents were incredibly smart...we all know that. I don't mind having a man in charge who thinks a lot of himself...I'd prefer confidence to anything else. As for his lies, can we really believe everything the media says, and assume they are telling us the whole truth about everything? I doubt that very much.
On to your Einstein comment...if you read my initial post, I didn't compare Trump to anyone, saying he was more or less smart than anyone else. All I did was ask his detractors why they call him dumb, when he is clearly not. Just like many others who have answered this post, you are putting words in my mouth just like the liberals love to do, which is why the last time I voted democrat in a major election was for Obama.
Northwest · M
@smmartydude Re-read my post.

He is ruthless, amoral, and a criminal, but not especially bright. No reason why those traits won't equal wealth.
I don't think he's an idiot, but I'm curioius, what about him makes you such a fan?
@smmartydude thank you. I'm a bit of a bitch sometimes, but I try not to be a nasty bitch.
smmartydude · 41-45, M
@MistyCee Haha no worries...I can be the same way...you are definitely having an un-bitchy day.
@smmartydude aww thank you!!!💋

President of the United Stares, sad but true. Leader of the free world, he the friend of Putin, Erdogan, and Duterte? You make me laugh, sir!
smmartydude · 41-45, M
@Gwangi President of the US = Leader of the Free World. Always has, always will.
lorne13 · 61-69, M
Do you have any evidence of his alleged wealth? Or of him being antging but an idiot?
@lorne13 maybe tax returns? Nah, because the people elected him knowing he was a pathological liar.
lorne13 · 61-69, M
@MistyCee lol, his tax returns, only a few Russians have seen them
cycleman · 61-69, M
I take he is an asshole. thought that seeing him on Letterman back in the '80's.
