I got him to go to the ER

Thank goodness the boys didn't have volleyball games today, because of the holiday weekend.

Joel came home from work and I was ready. He greeted everyone and went to the bathroom to take a shower.

I waited a few minutes then I went in there.

He looks at me and I look at the bruising on his side under his ribs.

We are going to the ER

He doesn't argue. I'm sure he knows it's pointless. He finished his shower and gets dressed. We tell the kids we have some errands to run and we go.

He tells me what happened. As I've said before he's the biggest guy there at the shop so they always have him do the heavy lifting. He back has been bothering him for a while now because of this.

The other butcher there is about 5 foot 4. Joel is close to 6 foot tall. He been using the table most of morning. He was going on break so Joel took over. They have an manual adjustable table and Joel was raising the table so he could work easier. The other butcher left the meat on the table.

They aren't supposed to raise the table with product on it. But they were behind on orders and his back was already sore so he didn't remove it. As he was raising the table the lift gave out causing the table to be uneven. The meat he was about to work on side down into him. This also causes the table to tip. Joel was more worried about letting the meat hit the floor then himself. The table hit him hard in the side. He was able to get the table adjusted and keep the meat from falling. He said he didn't realize how hard the table had hit him. He didn't say anything to anyone about it either because he didn't follow the rules. He was in a hurry and was trying to catch up. The other butcher is very slow.

We get to the ER and they get him in pretty quick. He told the doctor what happened and after X-rays they tell us he's got s few cracked and one dislocated rib. They gave him some pain meds and got the rib back in place. Just them doing that I could tell it helped relieve his pain.

I tell you what Joel on pain meds is hilarious. He's a light weight when it comes to that stuff. I should of filmed him after the meds kicked in.

There isn't much else they can do for him except give him pain pills, ice packs and they told him no heavy lifting for 4 to 6 weeks. They also suggested he sleep in a recliner for a few weeks to help with the healing

We're supposed to make an appointment with him doctor next week to see how it's doing.

The drive home was fun. He rambled on about stuff but he was going back and forth from English and Spanish so I have no clue what he was saying. It wasn't easy getting him in the house. I texted Star so she had the kids outside playing. I really didn't want them to see him like that. I get him inside and into the recliner. He talks a bit longer and then he's out. He was out for a few hours then woke up saying he was going to be sick, we barely made it to the bathroom. I felt so bad for him. I couldn't imagine how bad it hurt throwing up with broken rids. He fell asleep again and still hasn't woke up. So the kids and I had a nice quiet evening. We did a fire and watched banana ball and Disney movies.

now it's almost 3 am and I can't sleep.

The poor guy. At least he will qualify for workmen's compensation. I'm so sorry he got so messed up at work!

I'm so glad they did something for him!

@Poppies he's a bit more sore today but his eating again. I think the dislocated rib was causing his stomach to hurt so he didn't want to eat.

Is Joel having a few days off work?
If not he will have to tell his boss a white lie about the injury if he can only do light duties.

@Gusman I am not sure. We'll have to talk about it tomorrow. He was so out of it after the pain meds he might of told me his plan but I doesn't understand Spanish. Lol. He's supposed to be at work today at 5 am but I don't see that happening.

@Cigarguy101 If he does not wake up, you ring his work place and give them a reason he can not come in.
I am sure Joel will allow this.
Do not make it a complicated reason. Maybe a book shelf fell on him, if you have one, maybe he fell off the ladder changing a lightbulb and hit the corner of the table?

@Gusman I called in for him around 4:30. I told them in tripped on a toy with going down the stairs and feel down the last few steps. His boss was more concerned than mad he wasn't going in. Lucky the shop is closed tomorrow for the holiday. I am starting to worry a bit because he's still asleep. The last time we went to the ER he had the allergic reaction to antibiotics. They didn't give him anything yesterday. And like I said he's a light weight when it comes to meds. So you know me I'm watching him like a halk.
