Update: I successfully removed the surface caps, one by one, from ALL the keys. I had to do this because the keys were sticking and letters repeating. Some of the top row and second row keys weren't working at all.
It was so disgusting underneath!!!! There were little tiny dust bunny wads impacted inside, cracker crumbs, and cat hair!!! I had used a dust cleaning gel on the surface of the keyboard, and it got underneath the keys!!! Even the tiny side edges of some of the keys had crud on them.
I used my fingernail to gently pry off the key caps, (I no longer have that fingernail, BTW), and used a pin very gently to pry out stubborn hair and dirt from the corners around the circuitry, and used a soft household black bristled toothbrush to brush off the dried cleaning gel, which had basically turned into a dandruff-like substance. As I brushed, always toward the right edge, I cleaned the dust, "dandruff", and hair with a paper towel barely moistened with alcohol based window cleaner.
I saved myself $250.00. The geek squad came out here and told me the keyboard was not covered, and THEY would charge me $100 to send it to the factory, and then the factory would charge me $150.00.
I am SO delighted to be able to type without stopping to turn on caps lock and turn it off again because I couldn't get the M or the C to capitalize, and it will be awesome to be able to use the delete button again instead of placing the cursor behind everything and pushing backspace.
If anyone decides to do this for themselves, the key caps can be gently lifted at the top edge for most of the keys. On the number pad, the longer keys can be lifted from the right edge. The key caps just lift off. ALL the white circuitry beneath the caps is supposed to remain in place. Key caps just snap back in place, top edge first.

Ok so what you want to do to get the best results is let it soak in water mixed in with a bit of dish washer soap for a good minute or so ... Then wipe clean with a dry cloth. Should be good 👍

i've tore out a total key pad off a laptop before and solved the problem of sticky keys but had to use the on screen keyboard from that point onward
BizSuitStacy · M
It's ok, right? Don't want to lose you here.

@BizSuitStacy The only way that could happen is if I had broken my keyboard...BUT...I FIXED it!!! I am so freaking proud of myself!! There is no one on the planet who knows less about electronics than I do...🤣🤣🤣
BizSuitStacy · M
@4meAndyou It's a pretty good feeling to fix something like that. Saved yourself a few $$ too.

Never put holey water on your laptop 🤭
4meAndyou · F
@antonioioio Naw...I don't know beans about electronics, but I do know that water of any kind is bad...🤣🤣🤣
antonioioio · 70-79, M
@4meAndyou the same here 😊

Just put cleaner on the cloth, not the keys.
antonioioio · 70-79, M
Did you get the laptop fixed? 😊
4meAndyou · F
@antonioioio Yes, thank you! I wrote a long update down below, but it's as good as new!!!
