ASUS is pretty good, Dell seems to be fairly dependable. Lenovo used to be my go to, but I feel like they aren't as good as they used to be. I have 2 ASUS laptops that are basically ancient as far as computers go, and they still work great. ASUS still tries to make a comfortable laptop, I think it's worth the extra money.
I will NEVER own anything Macintosh!! I'm a dedicated Linux user, so I usually go for something that doesn't have an OS installed. Sometimes you can get a good deal if you don't have to pay for windows OS.
