How often do you get a new phone?

I have do many cracks on my phone and I believe its start to affect the motherboard. Sometimes videos get fuzzy and green on YouTube. I should have bought a case two years ago when I bought the phone but never got around to it. Things can be on a back burner when you feel you're barely surviving.
So nearly just two years later I need a new phone. Ughh. I'm Def buying a case.

five years or so more or less i dislike spending thousands on new tech unlike my hub who for some years thought he had to have every new iphone ever. insanity

@GoFish I'd wait five years if possible but unfortunately my phone is just too cracked now. It was only a hundred dollars so I'll just get same one again but make sure to get a case. It did last nearly two years...lol

@Baybreeze ok ok thats not bad but yeah keep it in a case

5-7 years on average these days. Never broken a phone, although I tore the ribbon cable on one of my old Motorolas. Got my first one way back in 1993.

Speck makes great cases, possibly the best. I don't drop my phone much, but when it happens....no damage.

Usually when the battery holds so little charge that it's inconvenient to use. But I have my current one because I dropped my previous one and smashed the screen.

@ninalanyon Yes my phone has been dropped now four times in a year and there's just too many cracks now. I really needed a case, would have prevented many of them. How long had you had your phone that it dropped?
ninalanyon · 70-79, TVIP
@Baybreeze Nearly two years I think. I dropped it when it was about a year old but that was just a cracked glass so it was perfectly usable. The second time it landed perfectly flat face down on a sharp piece of stone and not only the glass but the screen itself was catastrophically damaged.

When it stops working.

Only when mine is obsolete
Convivial · 26-30, F
Only when the old one breaks... No need otherwise..
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
When the old one doesn't work well or misses support for some new function I need. I've had mine for 4 years now and all seems well so far, so I hope it will stick around for a couple of more years.

I usually get one about every four years. That makes edur for a new one this year. Google usually brings out the new Pixel phones in the Fall. So I'll wait until then.

I bought my first phone from Verizon in 2015, and paid for it little by little for two years.

Then I needed a new one in 2024 (my phone was swelling and popping off the cover! Somebody said the battery could explode!).

Verizon said if I upgraded my plan they'd give me a free phone. The upgrade was only $10 more/month. What a deal! 5G not 4G. Unlimited data, not 3GB/month (plus $15 for each additional GB). A faster phone with 4 times more memory! Better camera.

If only I could get good reception in my apartment and at work! Sheesh. Keeps dropping to LTE. One bar. Internet won't load.
