For some reason unknown to me I lost access to my Wi-Fi network

When I looked into it, Nothing appeared. Ethernet - not connected.
For someone not at all tech savvy this was a problem.
Thought I would have to take my laptop to the computer people tomorrow.
Kept searching, somehow found how to at least get access to my wi-fi but it asked for the security key.
WTF! How am I supposed to know that? I do remember writing it down somewhere. After half an hour searching, without luck,
I came to the conclusion, no more wi-fi until I get to the computer people.
Then I looked at the wi-fi dongle and a deeply buried memory surfaced.
The security key is somewhere on/in the dongle. I extricated the back and there are a heap of numbers.
After trying several, success. Security key accepted, back on-line.
This tech stuff is a problem for those of us who have difficulty coming to terms with the intricacies.

Create a file on your computer with all this kind of information in it.

@ninalanyon That is the smart thing to do.
I shall begin the process tomorrow.

@Gusman do the same for you cellphones IMEI number, model numbers and passwords if applicable.

@ninalanyon I have done something like that but if the computer fails...

As it did, completely, a couple of months ago, and with a solid-state "hard-drive" it lost the lot.

All my passwords (different for every site) and other important information is also in print, with that kept safely away. Really important information like PINs is further disguised.

@ArishMell You should back up your computer regularly. Which reminds me that I haven't done mine since before Christmas! Started it running now.

@ninalanyon I got my cellphone backed up on a usb hub 1 TB SD card. 🤣

No computer!

@ninalanyon I have backed up most of it, on both an extension hard-drive and a spare, off-line computer.
