I guess it's time for a new phone.

So earlier today on my lunch break, I was watching something on my YouTube app on my Android, and suddenly a message came up that said, "Your phone is overheating" and it shut down.

So I waited about 5 minutes before starting it back up. It still operates like it should, but the battery is now swollen and it dies at 60-70%.

I've had it for just over 5 years and was starting to think about replacing it anyway.
No... [big]under absolutely no circumstances[/big] should you ever try to charge that again.

It will eventually catch fire and/or explode if you keep charging it. It's better to be without a phone for a while rather than getting hurt or killed.

IT moves very quickly, in particular anything that's internet-based, which is pretty-much everything these days, including most apps on mobile phones. 5 years is a long time. What will have happened in that time is that the size of apps will have grown much larger than it used to be when your phone was new, and so will the resources required to run the apps, so faster processor, more memory and more storage are all likely to be necessary. In the meantime your battery will have been wearing out anyway.

Sounds like you did need a new phone anyway. I hope you manage to backup anything that was only stored locally.
@PhilDeep I know! It's hard to keep up with all the frequent updates in technology nowadays. I mean, just look at how much cars have evolved in the past several years.

And luckily I don't really have anything important stored on my old phone, and I was able to transfer everything to my computer and then to a flash drive.

Yes, your battery is shot. Do not try charging it again. If you can't replace your battery then you need a new phone. Please do it quickly. Your old battery could explode.

Quite seriously, if the battery has become distorted DO NOT TRY TO CHARGE IT .. You have a big fire risk there

Yeah that battery is bad. I had one that was swelling and I replaced it myself for a lot cheaper since it popped the back off anyway. So that was convenient. Lol
