I'm an Android woman (with cold weather fembot nipples!) and hate everything to do with Apple ecosystem (Ios).

But I am also a feature phone lady (non-smart phones) and have one which has no smartphone features or operating system. A Nokia 800.

There are others around - some Sonim's don't run Android.

Idk i grew up using all of those so while i miss Blackberry for BBM and that tiles UI phone, ig it was Windows OS by Nokia? But while I love Android for the personal customisations when i get bored of iOS I can't skip Apple products bc I remember being tired of Windows laptops as a teenager and Mac has never failed me, so im partial to both OS for different reasons, but I still miss the Android phones by now unpopular companies like LG, Sony Ericsson etc they were such a vibe

Haha I'm the exact opposite, I'm an iPhone girl and I have a Mac, in front of which I'm sitting all the time, to write pointless CGI programs.
One thing we may have in common is the cold-weather<==>long-nipples
(CWLN-) effect 😏
butterflybaby75 · 46-50, F
@helenS CWLN 8-) Yep. I know people who are completely 'embedded' in the Apple 'ecosystem' of i-things and I think that's great in some ways. Supposedly the inter-operability is something that Apple's phones and computers and tablets are good at. I don't like Apple's closed-minded approach to Ios for it's phones - just my personal view.

@butterflybaby75 I use a Mac because I need a machine which runs under a Unix-like OS. The main program I work with is an xterm terminal emulator.
I bought an iPhone simply because I am happy with the Mac. The last Mac I had (a MacBook Air) lasted for 11 years (!) before it had to be replaced by a new one.
It is a cheapo Samsung-cost me £9- calls and texts only.
butterflybaby75 · 46-50, F
@helenS MS-DOS was based on CP/M. And the Windows NT core is still used in a lot of industrial systems that run 'embedded' Windows as their main control system.
@helenS I like my iPads😀

@TheSirfurryanimalWales People at my work are i-fans.

Stock Standard mobile.
Phone calls and texts only

Same things, different countries.

A "mobile" phone is what Britons call the general type of small, easily-carried radio-telephone that Americans call a "cell" phone.

Nothing to do with make or type.

Of the words, "mobile" is plainly wrong. They are portable not mobile - thank semi-illiterate advertising types for that muddle.

(A similar muddle we see now between the noun "contents", of what is in a box or web-site; and the adjective "content", of mood.)

While "cell" here is short for "cellular", describing the operating principle of the telephones' networks.
butterflybaby75 · 46-50, F
@ArishMell Yes nobody called them cellphones or cellular networks here in Oz, but the meaning is the same.
butterflybaby75 · 46-50, F
I should add that I never buy mobile devices (phones, tablets, etc.) on any sort of contract and only ever buy outright with no lock-in's.
exexec · 61-69, C
Cheap dumb cell phone for calls and texts. $60 phone and $12 a month for service. If you want to share pictures, Internet access, etc., call my wife.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@exexec I don't know how prices compare but my basic portable 'phone cost about £40 (5 years ago now) and is on PAYG so no service-charge. I reckon it costs me less than about £30/year in calls and occasional, brief texts.

My broadband service (for Internet-linked PC and land-line 'phone) is rather pricier though - typically £35/month I think.

BT (my ISP) tried to flog me what it calls its "Halo" service, which is designed for those who use the Internet for massive entertainments services for which a mere telephone, even a so-called "smart"-phone, would be ridiculous. It is very costly, I do not need it, and I refused it!
exexec · 61-69, C
@ArishMell I pay a lot for Internet service on cable. My phone is about as cheap as possible in the U.S.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@exexec I see - separate billing? I have the cheapest service they offered, but to do that it makes up for free weekend and evening calls by expensive weekday daytime fees. Luckily I don't need make calls during the day very often.
CharlesRomsey · 61-69, M
I like Sony kit, generally. I have Sony tv,soundbox, etc . My phone is a Sony Xperia : not the whizziest phone , but I have run over it in my car, dropped it in a full washbasin and it always comes up smiling .
Had Nokia's in the past, but now Android. Not anti Apple since I use a MacBook, but can't justify their high prices for a phone...at least on a computer there's productivity
butterflybaby75 · 46-50, F
wow it's amazing how many people have indicated they prefer android based devices and appear to have a 'hate' of Apple products! You go peoples!
butterflybaby75 · 46-50, F
ZTE used to make phones with their own firmware on them. Telstra the dominant telco here in Oz used to sell them.
braveheart21 · 61-69, M
Always had android phones around 20yrs now.... First one was almost house brick size 😂😂😂😂😂

@SW-User Interesting - I forget there's a whole subset who buy a phone based around it's imaging capabilities not for it's core function (as a phone and messaging device).
