I just go with what comes to mind first. My cat's name is Loki, my dalmatian molly is named 101, my golden panda mollies are Thing One and Thing Two, and my all black betta fish is Darth Betta.

Usually for the same reason the old joke says Adam named it hippopotamus. Because it looked like one.

Rags, a poodle mix I dragged out from under my mother's porch after her mother & siblings died. Worm-ridden and filthy. One of my top three dogs. Lucy, redbone coonhound who showed up on our porch.
