give the dog some antibiotics, humansones are the same as dog ones, its worth a try
Matt85 · 36-40, M
@jefferson Apparently you shouldn't do that as it can actually strengthen resistant bacteria. She needs to see a vet more than anything.

@Matt85 This would be the very best option for sure. However, where I live, vet care costs more than medical care for humans. Our medical care costs more than three times what it does in other states, so without insurance, it is almost impossible for many people here to see a medical professional. Many of us have learned to take care of ourselves and our animals as best as we can. Also, our vet has refused, in the past, to treat our elderly pets, claiming it was too risky.😔Thank you for your kind comment.🙂

@jefferson We do have Amoxicillin for her if she starts to have symptoms of infection, but the trouble is that the puncture wounds are two on either side of her face, at the back of her jaw. She can barely open her mouth, so giving her a pill in the usual way of poking it down her throat won't work. Neither will liquifying the powder and using a medicine syringe. We can't put it in her food because she is a beagle, and her sense of smell is almost like a superpower. If it smells funny, she won't touch it. We are hoping that if any signs of infection show up, it will be after the swelling goes down, so we can give her the antibiotics. Thank you so much for your wise comment., I do appreciate it. 🙂

Certainly. I have lost several old beagles over the years and now have one that is 8 years old. Sometimes we have to show our love by letting them go and ending their suffering. It hurts. I will pray for your dog and you.

@YoMomma That is a good idea. Thank you.🙂 She is actually eating very tiny pieces of chicken today. She is doing much better now, but she isn't out of the woods completely just yet. We are watching for infection, but so far, so good. Thank you for your advice. I appreciate it. 🙂
