Chewing is a soothing/calming activity for dogs.

Theres a number of ways to approach this :
1. Get them chew toys to self sooth on.
2. Give them more stimulation and engagement: play with them, take them for walks for exercise and sniffing. (Sniffing the world is very stimulating for dogs - its half fhe fun of the walk for them).
3. Try and find out what possible reason tje dog is 'anxious' and needing to self soothe:
- it it a new environment?
- its there something new IN their environment?
- has there been any type of change in their life, routine, people etc?
- are they in hiddem pain (this can come with age).

If a dog changes behaviour - there has to be a reason that triggers it.

Also....be careful of the chewing of the blankets - you wouldnt want it to end up in a bowel obstruction.

I hope you find a solution.

Stop buying blankets made from dog food. ;)

Seriously though, it sounds like she it unhappy about something. You need to figure out what that is. Also have a broom next to the bed and when you see her chewing grab it and start whacking. She will learn pretty fast not to do that. ;)
@JamesBugman Hitting a dog as training is just plain abuse.

Recommending it is just promoting abuse.

@OogieBoogie i think they were joking. but yeah lol
@LaurenRae maybe .
But then maybe he should be more preicise with his words:

Perhaps he should have started a new paragraph?🤷‍♀
It does read as if he is "serious" about the beating.

I hope hes not.
She is trying to show she is frustrated or bored.

There are plug ins you can use to release calming oils into the air to help her relax.

Long walks and cuddles work too.

If she is not spayed get her spayed, Female dogs that go unbred when they come into heat as they age, they begin to destroy things. Being 5 years old she is going into the beginning on doggy menopause and if not spayed will do this too.

@LaurenRae Do you suspect she might be in pain or something? I wondered that when you mentioned that she was not a puppy anymore.
