I can't say either is really into toys per se. They have all kinds, including three scratching posts/cat treehouses. Dried catnip doesn't much interest them either; they prefer the fresh growing in the backyard.
When Cooper was younger he would chase a laser dot, but no more. He gave up bringing in mice and birds as well because I never showed sufficient appreciation. He is basically OCD. One cat that curiosity will never kill.
Dinky likes to catch live mice, bring them to the patio (which she thinks is a stage) and play Hackensack with it until the batteries run out. Fortunately, never tries to bring them in. She does have one small Ragged Ann doll that when she is morose she will pick up, carry around like a kitten, and let out the most mournful, sorrowful wails over, before depositing it in one of the showers. (I would love to know the backstory on that. She was dumped on me, not yet a year old, and the Vet said she had already dropped a litter. I think it is obvious she was separated from her litter too soon. I don't like to even think about what she may have seen that connects her "kitten" doll to the showers.) Otherwise, she eschews the toys, but is a normal cat who loves any open box or bag.

It does sound like Dinky was separated from her babies early too. That's a lot for a young cat to go through and she remembers. I think all animals remember sadness and hurt from their past, they are after all very emotional creatures. How sad. But I wondered that too- did they drown her poor kittens and she heard them crying for her and then heartlessly dumped her? I know you give her a lot of love and it's something she deserves so much. ❤
