Scared of getting a dog?

I've basically been told by my husband we're getting a dog. Puppy is coming home at the end of august. I don't feel prepared mentally. I'm worried about the dynamic changing with my cats, I'm worried about the mess and the noise and all the possible "what if" situations. But I'm really scared I'll just have resentment towards both my Mr and puppy because I did not want this...

Your husband is selfish and inconsiderate. I'm not surprised you feel resentful. I also feel sorry for the puppy.
@Fluffybull You’re right. That’s indicative of a bigger problem than the pets. 🙁

Remember that you never own cats - they own you. Dogs are different. They by and large will generally become like another true family member. Cat's don't do that - cats are predators.

Be prepared for the massive vet bills that come with having any sort of domestic pet.

Cats and dogs can get along great. Some pairs might take more time than others.

The mess is an invariable part of an animal given that these animals are on par with little children as opposed to grown adults who can take care of themselves. Could be mitigated with training tho

I have dogs and a cat, they get along fine and all sleep on my bed. We trained our dogs to ring a bell when they want to go outside and had no accidents in the house. They can be noisy though I’m not gonna lie, they bark at pigeons and people 😂
Despite the stereotypes in decades of cartoons, dogs and cats can easily get along. Puppies need serious work to become house trained. Once a dog is trained though it really tries to let you know when it needs to go out.

BTW, what kind of dog?

There's a moment in a tv show called the walking dead. Where a survivor during the undead apocalypse is in a naive town full of people. A woman is "worried" about whether she will like the food she brought. To which the survivor said "worry? Worry? THIS is what you 'Worry' about?". Would've been the perfect meme. (Sorry I'm randomly resenting you right now)

No it's good he's getting the puppy the puppy will adjust to the cats the cats will probably thump the puppy for a bit but in the end believe it or not inside of a year they'll be friends or someone's going to be dead....😇😇😇😇

This sounds like a communication issue between you and your husband.

I hope you don't take your resentments out on the dog.

There's nothing scary about a dog.
It’s workable; there are even videos that show how to introduce a new pet into a household with resident animals. My friends have three cats and two dogs now. They were adopted at different times, but they all get along with each other. I’ve pet-sat them.
