My 7 month old cat follows me everywhere. No matter what I am doing inside or out he has to have his curious nose in it. He will run off when I use noisy power tools but immediately is back when I shut them off. He is very vocal and talks to me all day. It's very cute and endearing but I have to be constantly aware not to hurt him accidentally. Is this normal for cats?
@geoam1 My cat was like that. She would follow anyone into the bathroom and sit there and watch. She hated closed doors. When we played chase in the mornings I would close every door and she would follow behind me and push them open.
My cat was a stray when he was rescued from a kill shelter, and had six years of life before I adopted him from a Veterinarian's rescue event. I don't think his life was always kind or easy before his adoption.
He was absolutely terrified when I first brought him home, but after about 2 years of careful treatment and lots of love, he waits till I get up and then runs to the recliner chair for "kitty time". If I don't have "kitty time" with him right then, I can see that he is disappointed and sometimes he will meow at me and won't shut up.
But he does NOT follow me around other than that. He is his own cat.
Our 8 month old puppy follows me everywhere unless our 13 year old granddaughter is here. Then the puppy is hers. When she needs a nap, she cuddles up to my wife. I won't do for naps.
For a young cat it's normal, yes. You are his de-facto parent. As your cat matures he will start strolling around on his own more and more. At the age of 2, he will be a lone wolf, errmmm... cat.
@chockaholic2020 I have two semi-wild male cats, the masters of the universe (or at least the masters of the forest). They come home mainly to recover from fights, and to lick their wounds.
My cat looked like him and talked a lot. It took her a year to accept me and another year to like me but after that we were inseperable. We were together eight years and she died almost five years ago at the ripe old age of fifteen. I still miss her everyday.
my cat follows me everywhere i think lockdown didn't help - shes got attached coz i work from home i think shes thinks I'm her gf its cute don't get me wrong, but sometimes I'm like can i just have 5 mins lol
Yes I have a dog that follows me everywhere. Yesterday I left by the back door so my dogs wouldn't bark and disturb my wife who was on a Teams call and she though I was in the backyard and was scratching at the door for a couple of hours :(
It’s very normal when a cat is fond of you, although some cats are more vocal than others. If your cat wasn’t a "talkie" he would just be silently by your side. 😸
