A question for the socially awkward…

You know how it is when you want to ask something, mostly from curiosity, and you run it through your inner filter ( if you do that sort of thing). And it sounds stupid, even to you ?

Do you charge ahead and ask anyway, or do you keep it to yourself ?

I just ask. People already think I’m weird and awkward, might as well get the info I need.

I keep it to myself.
In fact I have started keeping most things to myself.
No. I have social anxiety and if I do end up asking it I usually stick my foot in my mouth because of it. A lot of times a person has to drag the question out of me. lol
It depends on the person. I have only a very few people I am comfortable asking anything. No matter how foolish I feel. Otherwise, i keep quiet.

That depends on how I feel at the time.
Often I'll refrain from asking, especially if I don't have a burning desire to know the answer....but sometimes (and especially when I've been drinking) I just go ahead and ask.

I will answer this by saying that I have several posts parked in draft. My inner filter demanded they stay there.

I will keep the question to myself..more often than not, the information comes available.
I try and filter but often it pops out. I have to really focus on being socially appropriate

I love the avatar for this group :D
I'd probably charge ahead, maybe prefacing it with,"For the slower members of the class.........."
wonkywinky · 51-55, M
I will usually say "can i ask you about ..........."whatever i want to know.
SW-User
I keep it to myself. I probably keep too much to myself.

I am not sure.. I don’t think I have an inner filter since i say stupid things all the time 🤷‍♀️🥔

I google it first, if it checks out, then ask it.
wonkywinky · 51-55, M
no im always slightly nervous to ask things often
bowman81 · M
Sometimes I just can't help myself. 🤦‍♂️

Keep it to myself unless we're having an awkward silence 😖 lolz
Sometimes I hold back, others I go ahead. If they ask why, I answer "because I'm nosy!" 🤣
I sleep instead and wake up with an absolutely clutterless head.

Made a fool of myself many a time, but it just shows I don't dream, I live life and make things reality.
You might not always get the response you want to hear but at least you can move on.

@eyeno Good point ! 👍🏽

I back off, in fact I just did on another post. After the third look at an image I changed my mind. And my reply became irrelevant.

This applies to regular posts as well as questions. I often back off. Because of many reasons. Not just being stupid reasons.

This also matters whether it's online or in person. In person I just never would ask. No way to take "a second look", so I just don't say anything.
I used to be that way and keep a lot of things to myself, but fortunately I grew out of it. As long as you don't ask potentially stupid questions in a setting where it can backfire, such as in front of your superiors at your job or something, life gets so much better (within this context) if you simply care far less about what other people think of you. So I charge ahead and ask anyway.
Rutterman · 46-50, M
Keep it to myself, at least initially. I might try to think of a less stupid-sounding alternative question that would get me the information I want, and if I can, I'll ask the question then.
fun4us2b · M
I have learned to wait, to see if something comes up that answers my (stupid) question, or helps me to reframe it. But I will always ask if it's not resolved.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
I change it so it sounds silly and post it ,unless I realize the creeps would make it something more than what it is.
sciguy18 · M
As someone else said, it depends who the other person is. If it’s somebody I know, I’ll ask the stupid question anyway. If not, I’ll keep it to myself.
cycleman · 61-69, M
I'll ask. Especially giving them a heads up "this is a stupid question!" ... and carry on with the question.
MethDozer · M
I ask anyway.
