Half social media "programming", half delusion. It's fine to find a certain type attractive, and there is a chance you may even land someone like that, but too many ignore their owns flaws. Oh, and "All men are evil" and whatnot.

@SW-User That is how that song sounds in the extended version, the five CD set.
SW-User
@CestManan uninterrupted prosperity
Because some women are hypocrites. Seriously, everyone has turn-ons. But unfortunately, some women can only see how hurtful those "wish lists" can be if they don’t measure up.
ginnyfromtheblock · 26-30, F
i think it’s not great when they do that and i don’t like it, though systematically women have been chosen for their breeding capabilities for thousands of years so there’s a societal recognition that its now their turn to flip the script.
SW-User
@ginnyfromtheblock I can also write a list of how society benefits women today. But I wouldn't do that because I'm too mature to have this same generalized war mentality.

Just because my feelings and my point of view are valid doesn't mean I have to invalidate yours.

I actually agree with all of that, I just don't agree with it being used to answer my question about double standards towards men.
SW-User
@ginnyfromtheblock And "power imbalance" doesn't mean the same thing as the exaggerated expression "society was built to benefit men" that expression hurts because it's literally invalidating my entire being... Unless we're living in 2 different world, because I never lived in such society built to benefit me
@SW-User I am very interested to hear what examples you may give to shed light on what standards or restrictions have been placed men vs those placed on women. Honestly this whole debate is weird. I feel like an African American trying to explain to a white person how racism is still impacting their life today. Clearly our generation has not been involved in slavery and we shouldn’t be punished for the sins of our fathers. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t educate ourselves to understand the ripple effect of those events. Obviously, it’s harder to understand the full impact of something you have not experienced first hand as a man. However, you can listen, have compassion, and learn.

The laws of attraction are nearly as unique as snowflakes. Or just about. That's why SW has a "women who get off on men who eat cereal standing up" (I made that up, but it's not really exaggerated).

People who use physical characteristics, as their only attraction factor, are using a depreciating asset, and in the mid to long run, are betting against the survival of their coupling.

But then again, they may understand that full well, and in some cases, may be able to compensate, by finding another coupling, based on any other assets they may have, especially if they don't care if the situation if temporary.

The idea of life long couples, who die holding each other's hand, is perfect, but so far, society has not really prepared us for it, and I hope we get there.

Those who throw stones, whatever gender they belong to, should be concerned about the viability of their own assets, and how that will factor in any relationship, or hookup, they choose to pursue.
Northwest · M
@PepsiColaP Jesus Christ, please understand what the Solow–Swan model is used for.

When augmented with human capital, it predicts that the income levels of poor countries will tend to catch up with or converge towards the income levels of rich countries if the poor countries have similar savings rates for both physical capital and human capital as a share of output, or what's known known as conditional convergence.

However, there are wide variances across countries, in particular when it comes to investments in as a function of cultural and ideological characteristics in each country.

Refocus on the simple proposition I gave, and try to disprove it: A fresh out of school engineer, makes $100K, an engineer with 20 years of experience, in the same field, could be making $250K-500K. I'm not going to bother with differential equations, which is what you need to start exploring Solow–Swan, use simple arithmetic: On any given day $250K-$500K is larger than $100K, and that, in the real world, is not depreciation.
@Northwest it doesn't matter if it's augmented or not that's the purpose of the solow model entirely. But that's not my point. The point is that even economics accounts for depreciation in human skills and intelligence over time ,and that's not the only model with mathematical parameters that include that. Over time and with the body aging mental capabilities decline. That is factual whether you look at biology economics or pure observation. Yes experience is important but experience can't prevent physiology from its ultimate decay
Northwest · M
@PepsiColaP
it doesn't matter if it's augmented or not
Says no one with any level of macro-econ experience.
The point is that even economics accounts for depreciation in human skills and intelligence over time
Given the right context, which may or may not include certain types of labor, AND contextually accurate classification of labor.

As in, and that's really econ 101: a laborer in Africa, manually building dirt irrigation channels, depreciates along a time scale, while a nuclear physicist's contribution appreciates along a time scale.

Which is why, today, in technology, medical and other professional fields, as well as white-collar fields, up until retirement, there is appreciation, rather than depreciation, and that's econ 101.

When when it comes to looks, it's a continuous downward slope.
Miram · 31-35, F
For some people, this is true.
Some being the keyword.
Even though I find physical fixations strange in dating, strange not Wrong, there should be differences between desiring certain attributes in a partner and desiring them in ALL gender.

The second is more destructive.

So really this thread requires some narrowing down to tangible examples for an accurate objective reply.

Any context where the person has double standards it comes down to cognitive biases and differences in values. In certain situations it is an isolated mistake.
Miram · 31-35, F
@Miram

Also, I think this is again about fixed roles. When a person assumes the role of victim as a permanent identity they are less likely to hold themselves accountable for double standards and grow.
We all fall prey to our own intellectual limitations but we have the ability to move pass them.
Preferences are real for all genders whether we acknowledge them or not. When these are however used to objectify , emasculate , dehumanise one another it becomes a problem and it is a problem. Because we are historically used to the overwhelming sexualisation and objectification of the female body and appearance , not just from men alone in that matter but it is not a who to blame game BCS there are a lot of motivators behind it that are an entirely other discussion, we can excuse the display of similar behaviour towards males and even baptise it empowering. The problem is that it is misogynistic in its nature even when targeted towards males (small penis /less masculine /less masculine bad / short /less masculine /less masculine bad) etc.
SW-User
@PepsiColaP please correct me if I misunderstood: So are you saying that it's because women often feel very objectified and sexualised, probably way more than men can imagine or relate to, and that's why some of them basically take vengeance this way?
@SW-User no im just saying this is why it probably seems more socially acceptable than a male directly objectifying a female . Why ppl do that to each other varies
SW-User
@PepsiColaP I think you have a point 🤔
Because there was a long period of women being oppressed.
I agree is hypocritical for people to be celebrating a woman’s right to openly declare all that stuff while mocking men, but we’ll probably be seeing that for a long while before it balances out. For too long women had to marry who their family chose, then stand by their man regardless of what he did or said (divorce was a sin or just unthought of!) and then you had women never being allowed to speak freely on anything because it was ‘unladylike’ but men still got to do and say whatever they wanted. Even during my younger years I experienced some of that stuff forced on me..”smile, be nice, don’t say this/that” So, while it’s unfair, it’ll continue to occur until women finally stop feeling the ripples of all those years of oppression and brainwashing. :)
Hate to break it to you man, but 6' isn't even considered tall anymore. Hell, I think 6'2" is the national average now. I'm about 5'8" and if she's gotta be somewhere between 5'4" and 5'8" for it to work. Do I get sh*t for it? Yes, but that's their problem and not mine.
Look, you wanna be more attractive than clean yourself up and be more attractive. Hit the gym, go out in the sun, show yourself off on instagram having a good time and let the girls you want come to you!
@SW-User while size is important to some women, it can vary from girl to girl. If you are not happy with your size, you can always get it enhanced.
SW-User
@GohantheThird Wait, since when am I the topic of this discussion? 🙄
@SW-User since you're the one with the issues man!! Look, you're worrying about shit you can't change instead of focusing on shit you can change. You know what women love? Confidence! Confidence in their features and their qualities. Maybe try that!

The key is to not give a shit. Women are the gatekeepers of sex, so they choose who gets the goods and who doesn't, men are the gatekeepers of relationships, you choose who gets to enjoy your resources. If you want options among hot high quality women, build a lifestyle that will attract such women.
Nanori · F

Slade · 56-60, M
@Nanori I just want hairpie! ❤️
Detrimentalpineapple · 22-25, F
I don't agree with ur statement. Both genders objectify each other and that is fine.

For example, if you are into hookup culture. You dont need to know the persons name or personality, just find them physically attractive enough to smash and move on with your day.

Even for a long term relationship physical attraction is important. I think any sort of opinion is fine as long as both partners are happy.

For me personally as I've gotten older and going through certain experiences, I rather just be alone, eat and watch documentaries
SW-User
@Detrimentalpineapple But I do agree with your statement. I didn't say women only objectify men.. I'm saying they seem to be doing it more ( at least in my experience in the 21st century ) and the world seems to be accepting it
Detrimentalpineapple · 22-25, F
@SW-User thats the part i dont agree with. Probably due to our own confirmation bias.
SW-User
@Detrimentalpineapple Yeah that's true, of course maybe we had different experience in different societies
JuniperEmz · 22-25, F
Because women have all the sexual power (assuming its consenting which it better be).

We have the holy grail men seek, whereas except to conceive plenty of women would be quite happy to find energetic company in batteries...
SuperScooter · 31-35, M
@JuniperEmz what?
women want good looking guys just like good looking guys wants good looking women..
you make no sense..
CestManan · 46-50, F
There are only so many tall, dark, handsome, rich men to go around. Those men are in the rare position of getting to pic and choose from the best women out there. Why should he settle for less?
Man haters, eh? Generalizations are always dangerous.
@SW-User
Yes, several.
SW-User
@pillowprincess Sorry, must be your poor language skills

SW-User

I think it's the other way around really. Women are unfairly expected to be shy & reserved in many places in the world unlike men.
SW-User
@SW-User Ummm that's a good point.. It's probably not everywhere in the world...
Classified · M
I don't think it's as strong as you paint it, but other than all the historical stuff mentioned (which annoys me 😑), I think women have more objectification to bear and then it can kinda work like an allergy. Maybe also because men are on average physically stronger, it may be less intimidating when a woman pulls out a list of preferences.
Reflection2 · 41-45, M
Because they know what they have, men looking for so it will always be their choice.

If you heard the famous joke. Beautiful women don't work hard because they know some stupid male is working hard, just to get a pretty women like her 😂
SuperScooter · 31-35, M
@Reflection2 same goes the other way around.. women look for men
caccoon · 36-40
Haha because certain things are already expected from a woman.

And tbh, there is bullshit from both sides. You get men spouting physical wants they have, and women do it too.

It's just shitty people being shitty.
SW-User
@caccoon Maybe.. society can be shitty to everyone...
caccoon · 36-40
@SW-User I could be wrong, but I am just saying men have these brainwashed expectations.

We're all, to a large extent, unaware.

But obviously women have cottoned on to being overly sexualized and expected to be whatever. I think it's fine for them to ask for what they want. At least they're being straightforward about it.

I see men doing the same thing. If I meet them in real life, I avoid them. If I see them on a dating app, I avoid them. It's just funny.
SuperScooter · 31-35, M
@caccoon cute little caccoon :)

Double standards.
Deep down most people are shallow and are just too afraid to admit it. So they either play nice and keep it to themselves or they vocalize it obnoxiously and everyone gets offended as if it affects them personally.
Let’s just say men have overused and abused that privilege for centuries….sorry you have to bear the brunt of the ancestors. 😕
SW-User
@Vivaci What do you mean? 😭 Why all I get from my ancestors is trouble? What did I do to deserve this? 😭
@SW-User Because they never thought of how their actions will affect coming generations.

This is why I always try to be better than my parents and grandparents…not that they were bad….but we have been exposed to a lot of cultures and there is more arrogance and openness at the same time.

Following a monotonous routine is next to impossible under these circumstances…something that was rare for their generation to fathom.

So we have to break their mindsets and stop the clichés…& it’s going to take patience to reach there….but bear in mind that not everyone will have the maturity to understand you (let’s call such people A). And you’ll be surprised that there are many who will walk next to you…coz they’re facing the same questions and fears(let’s suppose they’re B). You’re not alone…just know your A’s from B’s.

@SW-User Because they are given a free card to revenge for all the hundreds of years they haven't been as valuable as men.

I think if z woman said that she would most likely be joking.
If she wasn't I'd think she was incredibly shallow.
