Preferences are real for all genders whether we acknowledge them or not. When these are however used to objectify , emasculate , dehumanise one another it becomes a problem and it is a problem. Because we are historically used to the overwhelming sexualisation and objectification of the female body and appearance , not just from men alone in that matter but it is not a who to blame game BCS there are a lot of motivators behind it that are an entirely other discussion, we can excuse the display of similar behaviour towards males and even baptise it empowering.
