Forgive me if I sound like a blazing idiot...
But, I still don't get how the main feed is set up. I see some posts 2 min ago, then next one says 52 mins ago, and then 25 mins. Ago. And what is the flame emoji for??

The flame is what the algorithm believes is hot according to what it thinks you like as well as what it thinks is popular.
This is actually what the admin are trying to promote.
The different times is also a result of their desires even if it's on the regular feed. It's caused by not slowing all the posts. Therefore making it look like it's a hot post.
Posts that are not popular are always moved down the feed list so adjusting the feed settings does little good.
Three different sort algorithms conflict with each other. 🤷🏻♂️

What it thinks you want
And moving unpopular post down
Sort by time posted is given the least priority.
People have both blocked or muted you and their likes are also figured into the greater algorithm.
This is where "reputation" comes into the feed equation. Reputation has always been a factor in the feed order.
Reputation and popularity just will never be the same things.
BTW there's no setting on reputation. And they really don't want to advertise it. Yet it's in the TOS.
