The World Has Gone Crazy

I had a scary episode happen at the gym last night. I work out at 2 gyms on a regular basis. We all tend to gravitate to a favorite spot but it is a first come first serve basis.

I work out near 3 friends. I came to the class early and set up my weights, mat and other equipment. I turned to get a 10 lb plate and a lady tried to take over my spot.

i told her i was there first and asked her politely to move back. She refused. Seems she had given "her spot" to a friend and wanted mine for herself. she said she had stood there for years. Not true.

she took her weights and blocked me from getting to my mat. I stepped over them. She then put her 15 lb weights in my path so I could not move anywhere. If I stepped back, i would have fallen and for sure gotten hurt.

The instructor saw her and told her to move back-4 times. She refused. (her friend snickered)
The lady made reference to my age. Then told me she was going to give me covid. Threatened to cough and sneeze on me. ( I consider that assault)

The instructor finally embarrassed her in the class and said out loud that i had been there first-she needed to move. She hit the glass in the wall so hard (twice) the wall shook but still would not move.

I refuse to be bullied. I refused to move. I called the gym today and spoke to the manager. She said that she will be calling the member and if there is no remorse, she will be removed from the gym. If she continues, she will be banned from the gym chain permanently.

The worst part? My 3 friends did nothing. actually walked out. One flat out told me that she was not getting involved. Would not come to my defense at all. Would not tell the lady that i stood there for years.

@akindheart one sister would pop by my place usually at lunch time when i was working at night and I’d be cooking lunch and invite her to eat. She was working in town and didn’t want to buy her lunch. She would also pop in without calling and come and visit and hint around at something she’d need and I’d share what I had with her. But after years of this once she needed a ride home because her car died on her so I took her home and thought it would be nice to visit and in less than 30 minutes she made a remark that I was wasting her time. That’s when I started waking up to how selfish she was.

@cherokeepatti whoa...whoa...that is horrible.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@akindheart I still want to help but in a way that I know will truly benefit others in need. The sad thing is that most of those people will not ask for help and that’s who I want to help. Want to make dresses for school girls in Appalachia. I can’t find the website but am looking, maybe the quarantines suspended that. . Also need to find fabric that is reasonable in price which is getting harder these days.

Now you know who you can always trust in those situations...yourself! Good job standing your ground. The threat to give you covid is actually a class A misdemeanor that would include jail time. Its called menacing . I would hope the manager of the facility follows through.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@TexChik i will let you know. AND i won't be interacting with the 3 women again.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@akindheart I don’t think you are the type to create drama in public places. But there is a time to hold our ground when someone tries to take advantage like a damn heathen.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Sounds like a few customers at Walmart. One lady had her cart next to her looking at DVDs in a bin and another walks up and grabs the cart and tries to take it, after a loud exchange they got into a physical fight.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@cherokeepatti that is crazy.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@akindheart glad I don’t work there any more. That store was a magnet for such things.

How awful for you. Trash and scummy sorts are everywhere these days.
The positive thing is, you found out your friends are not true friends and they can be ditched.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@jjoe01 i am already planning my response to those 3 friends thurs night

Me me me me. This is the society we live in now. It sucks. Years ago this would have never happened to you.

Virgo79 · 61-69, M

cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Virgo79 a huge amount with the thinking “My way or the highway”.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M

This is totally ridiculous! Your friends not standing by your side is unforgivable. I dont know whats happened to our society!! But, at least the instructor said something and the gym manager will be contacting that individual. No one deserves to be bullied!! 🤗
akindheart · 61-69, F
@SW-User all i expected was for my friends to say that I had been standing there for years. but they didn't. they point blank looked at me and said "we are not getting involved"
SW-User
@akindheart friends stand up for friends!! 🤗
SmoothKnight · 51-55, M
Wow. With friends like that....😑
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
The hell? Talk about an "entitled Karen.". Let's hope gym management actually follow through.

It's not like you were asking or trying to get your companions into a fight.

What is getting into people?
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Crazywaterspring selfish sobs and bullies. Thise 3 knew i stand there every class but if shegot there first i woukd have moved
braveheart21 · 61-69, M
I think my darling you need some new.. TRUE.. Friends not just the fairweather kind.... The treatment they gave you was disgusting...
Carissimi · F
The worst part of this story is the betrayal of your friends who did not back you up, when you were assaulted. That hurts deeply. You now know that when the chips are down, they won’t be there for you. Maybe you can keep them as acquaintances, but no longer the friends you thought they were. I’m so sorry. Hugs.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Carissimi you nailed it. I didn't expect them to get in a fight with her. all i wanted was for them to say, hey she always stands there. they walked out. unforgiveable.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@akindheart they could have at the very least been there for a witness for you. To walk away is cold.
asslover699 · 61-69, M
that sucks in many ways...
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
