The world is run by narcissists and egomaniacs, but the world is changed by artists and empaths. Do you agree?

Why or why not?
TinyViolins · 31-35, M
I agree with the former, but not the latter. While empathy definitely plays a part in the slow progress of humanity, I think that it's ultimately force that changes the world.

We didn't free the slaves because we were sentimental towards their plight, we freed them by fighting a war. America wasn't handed independence because the Declaration changed hearts and minds, we fought a war for that too.

Change is built upon corpses, not love and empathy

@TinyViolins I wasn't implying that change didn't sometimes end up resulting in bloodshed. Change is often painful. But there is no movement towards change without the visionaries who point the way towards it first... This very often happens because of empathic people like Martin Luther King/Ghandi/Jesus ...And because of artists like poets/musicians/painters/etc who influence the hearts and minds of culture. Therefore ... These are the ones who change the world. The people are always catching up to the things these kind of people are talking about and fighting for. But sure--- Force is a part of change too. It just typically doesn't begin with force.

Changed? Nah. The world stays the way it is. Horrible and unlivable.
brokensignal · 46-50, M
@assemblingaknob Well --- That's not entirely true. There have been a lot of advances over time in medicine for instance. Probably used to feel much more "unlivable" back when you'd yank out a tooth on nothing but a shot of whiskey. ;D

@brokensignal 🤭 Oh. True.

Art can only imitate life not change it! God can change life!

The world is changed by people that have too much money.

Art and emotion change the world for one person.... money changes everyone’s world.
brokensignal · 46-50, M
@SW-User Art and emotion change hearts and minds. Which ultimately changes the way in which people use their resources. The world is changed through people's perceptions being changed. Money ultimately has no choice but to follow when enough people wake up to certain realities about life and force those in power to change with them.

@brokensignal mmm, that’s pretty idealistic.
This might be effective for the surface level of things but there are deeper parts of society that truly run everything that you and I can barely even imagine.

Human Trafficking... Genetic Experimentation.... Deep State Politics...

Privately Funded Laboratories...
Art and Emotion can’t even scratch the surface of the big picture

@SW-User Maybe... But usually when people wake up from their apathy and indifference to human suffering these kind of dark elements are drawn to the light and exposed. Not gonna get in to a conspiracy theory debate.... I feel ya. And perhaps it is idealistic. But I think history shows that these things ebb and flow and usually at the core of all big movements for change you have a collection of inspirational people/leaders/poets/artists etc who bring about the big shifts in perception/consciousness.
