Words have meaning and names have power.

I can be laughed at, I can be hated, I can be ignored.

At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter.

But, don't try to slander my honor and call me a liar.

Where there's smoke, there is fire.

If I have to CLEAR my name, then I will.

Ya'll asked for it.

My parental name is mired in trauma. Plus side my name is also super common. I even share a name with a popular singer. My self given name tho I will stand up for.
Umile · 41-45, F
@Samek well said.

I don't like my name. It's not euphonic. I prefer some foreign versions of it.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@CrazyMusicLover in the US, they always ask for your birth date!
Elessar · 26-30, M
@CrazyMusicLover I have the same situation with the first name but the surname is quite rare at least in the north of the country. Which leads to people calling me by surname 😩
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@samueltyler2 Doctors do here too.
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
There is none. My life was shattered when i was 28. Noone cares about me anymore. But 🤷‍♂️ it is what it is.
Umile · 41-45, F
@GuyWithOpinions Try to find some happiness in your life. Chin up. 🙏
My last name ? It’s like "Jones" in New Orleans—humble and fairly common. I have an older last name I will never know, lost forever during an ancestor’s voyage on the slave ships.
Umile · 41-45, F
@bijouxbroussard True. I often wonder at just where Islanders originated from.
@Umile Depends on the islands. My father has some Haitian roots, but his ancestors were brought there from Nigeria and Mali.
Umile · 41-45, F
@bijouxbroussard It's so interesting how that is.

We think 1/2 or 1/4, imagine 1/100
SeaGlass · F
My great-grandmother, an ancestral place in England, and an Irish clan; those are the origins of my names
Umile · 41-45, F
@SeaGlass ooh. Nice. Your name might be my name.
SeaGlass · F
@Umile Wouldn't that be lovely 😌
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
I had to grow into my given name. It took me a while to appreciate the meaning behind it and want to use it.
Umile · 41-45, F
@SwampFlower I'm glad you grew into it. Your name is important.
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
@Umile Where I'm from, names carry a certain responsibility with them too. I didn't know if I wanted it or could even live up to it. I was also bothered by people outside of family mispronouncing it or teasing.

But I agree with you now.
Umile · 41-45, F
@SwampFlower 👏 👏 👏
antonioioio · 70-79, M
I like the meaning of my name
It means
The stroked cat is gentle
antonioioio · 70-79, M
@Umile it might be wrong, but that's what was written under the family crest or coat of arms😊
Umile · 41-45, F
@antonioioio Talk about different. Well. It's a great topic of conversation or an icebreaker.
antonioioio · 70-79, M
@Umile That's true 😊
Shadyglow · F
no. I destroyed my own family name.
Shadyglow · F
@Shadyglow why issue a "heart"

????
Umile · 41-45, F
@Shadyglow Well, redemption is not only a word.

And anything broken can be mended.

I find that just owning it and humbly trying to fix it is always best.
Umile · 41-45, F
@Shadyglow To show support on how you feel.
Sequoia51 · 70-79, M
