Do you walk the path of the mystic, wielding Voodoo, Paganism , or other arcane powers?

Most people learn about voodoo, witchcraft, or pagan rites from movies, books, or internet rumors. For me, it was just Tuesday dinner.

I grew up in a family where these arts weren't a hobby or a phase, they were simply how we navigated life. But things got even more intense when I married into a family that has been practicing these same arts for hundreds of years. Now, I live at the intersection of two deep magical lineages, balancing traditions that most people only read about in fantasy novels.

From ancestral altars that have been tended for generations to specific protective charms we use before big life events, our reality is shaped by inherited knowledge. It’s not just "belief"; it’s a toolkit passed down through blood and marriage for handling conflict, healing, protection, and even celebration. We don't just "do" rituals; we live them.

Does anyone else here come from a multi generational line of practitioners (Wicca, Voodoo, Hoodoo, Shamanism, etc.)?

Vodun,Vodou (voodoo).
It was just another religion, with roots in West Africa. Louisiana was one of the few states where slaves were able to practice; since Catholicism was the prevalent faith of the people, both enslaved and free people blended it with African religions, the saints often replacing our Orishas. I grew up with that.

I guess I do... though it wasn't really talked about.

It wasn't the cutesy stuff you see on films, either... no altars, spell casting or anything like that... though tarot, spells and spellbooks were present.

I spent a lot of my life in a push-pull relationship with spirituality and the things that I can do/see. I joined a baptist church as a child, dropped out as a teen, then became Catholic as an adult - thing is that stuff kept happening... stuff that I can't logically explain and I haven't really talked about.

So now, I find myself sat here "a little bit psychic" (according to my mother) - trying to make sense of a world where I am otherwise gifted in ways that few understand and that I can't really talk about because of fools who say "It's not real" or "It doesn't happen like that.

I know my own reality and what happened/happens with me... I don't question that part. It's the rest I don't understand.

@HumanEarth Oh, I can understand that, and I respect it as your family heritage. Just like our cross dressing it was not a subject I was going to make and joke about of light of with a pun. A person's belief system maybe different than mine but when it is important to them and their life, I respect it and the person.
