Researchers detect thick atmosphere around planet twice as big as Earth

A thick atmosphere has been detected around a planet that’s twice as big as Earth in a nearby solar system.
Researchers reported the discovery of the super-Earth on Wednesday, local time.
The so-called super-Earth known as 55 Cancri e or Janssen is among the few rocky planets outside our solar system with a significant atmosphere, wrapped in a blanket of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide.
The exact amounts are unclear. Earth’s atmosphere is a blend of nitrogen, oxygen, argon and other gases.
The really exciting news about 55 Cancri e is that is a mere 375.3 trillion kilometres from Earth and would take so long that I can not calculate it. 😄

pretty cool.
i had a dream the other day that there was an earth-like planet in the sky!

Its likely on a path to being hospitable to life perhaps carbon based like ours?
Perhaps when a comet or meteoroit or astroid impacts it thatll be the next step?

It’s cloudy there but has a good art scene and night life

Approximately 39.637531276 light years at the speed of light.

@DeWayfarer How many Earth years is my question.
Impossible for me to work out.
Voyager 1 is travelling at 61,000 kmph.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Gusman 61,000 kmph is 6.447705087E-9 (
.000000006447705087)
of the speed of light .

@Gusman must state first 61,000 kmph is slow compared to what what we are capable of.

Last I heard it was around 1/10 of the speed of light. So multiply 39.637531276 light years by 10.
