Brian May -- guitarist and astrophysicist

Brian May is probably best known as a guitarist in the musical group Queen:

But he also has a PhD in astrophysics, and he was involved in NASA's New Horizons mission to Pluto. Here he is, holding a globe of Pluto:

It took him about 30 years to earn that PhD (an impressive feat of endurance in itself) because he was slightly distracted by other things when he was supposed to have been studying full time at uni!
@SunshineGirl So, the takeaway is:
It's never to late to follow our dreams and heart's desires!

Awesome!!! 😀

@SunshineGirl Poor guy! He could have been a physics teacher!
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON Absolutely. He's a great advertisement for lifelong learning. I don't know much about astrophysics, but whatever his original thesis was he must have had to revise it several times to keep up with new research 🌠

Wow amazing! Cool and smart guy!

I want a Pluto globe!!
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@JimboSaturn There are several places online where you can buy one, ranging from a cheap inflatable balloon to one that costs over $300 American.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@DrWatson thanks for that!
@JimboSaturn I have earth at home; time to donate it. No other planets, sorry :)

I love that! It’s very inspiring. No matter how varied our interests are, we can pursue anything. What a passionate life. ❤️
And now Sir Brian May.

@LamontCranston I did not know that. Very cool.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
Fun fact: Brian May's guitar, which he dubbed the "Red Special" is a custom made electric guitar.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
@Nitedoc I always thought that custom made and self made were one in the same.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@Sidewinder It doesn't really matter. Perhaps it's a matter of perspective.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
@Nitedoc 🤔Makes sense.
I know this about him.
He's so cool.

Now, to the business at hand:
When will they reinstate Pluto as a planet?

They got some chutzpah!...😂😂😂
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON

Astronomers demoted Pluto.

But planetary scientists were not all represented in making that decision.

Many of them still consider Pluto to be a planet, and so do i!
@DrWatson I will ALWAYS know Pluto as a Planet.

I heard that Neil deGrasse Tyson was part of that 'demotion team' ?
THETY got it WRONG.... and THEY all can suck it!! lololol...

It's bad enough that Sir. Pat HAD to desecrate my STNG LEGACY, no, he doesn't get it. It is enmeshed with MY LIFE> STNG was my 'family'.
I will not allow anyone to fk with me anymore, I draw the line here, now... 😎😌📢

Sir Isaac Newton - like
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Nitedoc He sort of is now . . he appears on popular science shows as a celebrity physicist 🙂
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@SunshineGirl I was making light of this. He and Gene Simmons could have been teachers if those bands didn't get in their way. I think they were much better off to chose the bands!
So, John can't participate in NASA missions, but Brian May.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@LordShadowfire It's times like this that I wish SW had a *groan* reaction! 😂
