Positions are the signs your planets are in. Basically, each planet rules an aspect of the personality. The sun rules the ego, the moon rules emotion, mercury rules thought and communication, etc. So what sign each planet is in determines what the aspect of your personality is like. So for example, you said your moon is in capricorn. The moon rules emotion, and capricorn is the sign of hard work, dedication, maturity (in a nutshell). So what this position would tell you is that you may deal with your emotions in a methodical and practical way. Each planetary position is more nuanced by two other things other than sign, though. This would be the house the planet is in, and any aspects to that planet. This is more complicated stuff. But basically when read in full, the entire birth chart is very unique and complex.
