I saw one in 1976. I remember the year because it was a bicentennial year. I picked it up as I was getting the mail. It was very dark and isolated where I was living on a horse farm. It went from over head all the way over the horizon. I'll never forget it or probably ever see another one like it. Not one word on the news about anyone seeing it.

@Gibbon I’m hoping someone in my area saw it, I have a lot of “weather fields” friends so hoping one of them saw it and will post about it.

Some places have so little light pollution, you can't look at the sky without seeing shooting stars everywhere. Sigh...when summer? Come pls. I want to go to the woods.
It' really is amazing to see, isn't it?!

Not a comet, a meteor, a "fireball" as they're termed .. great picture!

That’s not a comet. It’s a meteor. A meteor is caused when a space rock (or metal) enters the atmosphere and burns up. A comet is a much larger celestial body that grows a tail as it approaches the sun and starts melting and sublimating. Comets can be in the sky for a few months before they return to the outer solar system.

And you caught it that's an impressive shot

@11knaves11 No that’s just a random pic from the internet, and the one I saw was actually bigger than what this one is.
