That’s not a comet. It’s a meteor. A meteor is caused when a space rock (or metal) enters the atmosphere and burns up. A comet is a much larger celestial body that grows a tail as it approaches the sun and starts melting and sublimating. Comets can be in the sky for a few months before they return to the outer solar system.
