The "space force" is a re-labeling of a few parts (Major Commands) of our existing Air Force such as the Global Strike Command & Space Command. Cons here who are getting all excited about "who controls the skies" don't realize the Air Force has been doing these same missions for decades. They think Trump conjured something new when all he did was a PR trick.
@ElwoodBlues In all fairness, that's what was done when the Marine Corps was founded. They were part of the Navy, and because they were that part of the Navy that did specific missions, they became their own outfit. Same missions, different name.
Unfortunately, when Netflix greenlit a show by the same name, copyright issues came up, and the actual Space Force faced the problem of needing to rename itself.
