This is a question for people that enjoy the waters but doesnt stay anywhere close to the ocean

Would u spend your whole life working just to have a dream to live at or close to the ocean one day and give up your life where you are currently......even if it means living a little below what u used to ?

I live about a five minutes’ drive away from the Bay now. My first apartment was the size of a walk-in closet, but the back window overlooked the Bay. Unfortunately, it was on a cliff with a lot of erosion. I moved when it started to become expensive, long before the apartments on that street had to be torn down because the ground beneath them was crumbling. This is a picture from the news right before the building where I once lived was red-tagged:

When I think of "ocean-front property", I remember this.

My personal take is that environment is crucial. People are attracted to different things. There's beach people, mountain people, desert people, city people, etc. And they all have up and downsides. But being in the environment that fires you up the most, the place where you're most comfortable and fulfilled, is so important. I think too many "deal" with where they live when the better call is to live someplace that fuels them. So if the ocean is your thing, move to the ocean. For sure. But it is wise to consider the realities of day to day life. It's not always what people may think it is.

I grew up by the beach and still live here. 20 years ago I'd never of left, but now I think it's time to go. Gentrification has changed everything. Even the land is sinking.

@Ynotisay Exactly this. And I do not agree with it at all. A certain amount of land ratio should have to be preserved. And there should be stricter codes. And there is A LOT of corruption going on because there's a ton of money to be made. The people getting rich don't care about the land. They bring in fill dirt and flood out the locals. I can't even sell my house and afford to buy another one here. There's not enough resources. And it attracts the drinkers and party people, then there's nothing family friendly or wholesome left to do.

I will never take for granted my time by the ocean but I can't go down with these morons.

@AlchemyFox i guess the people that has been by the ocean forever dont want it become like the concrete jungle.....they want it ro be the way they have always known it to be

@AlchemyFox Neither of us are in unique situations. It's happening in a lot of areas. Locals are being pushed out. Either by cost or because they just don't want to deal with what the places they loved have become. And what sucks most about is those who really 'get" those environments are the ones losing out. As are the ones who respectfully visit for the right reasons. So I'll say it. Fuck short term rentals and fuck the way money for the rich takes precedent over natural environments and people's lives. Once the line is crossed you can't get it back.

I’m not working for that at all, but I do hope to live at the coast some time in the future. I love it there, but job opportunities are limited and property is crazy expensive.

No. I wanted to temporarily live somewhere warm close to the sea but it's not that easy and considering how crazy weather during summer gets these years, I probably wouldn't want to set living there as a long-term goal.
Also, I have never been anywhere close to any ocean.

@wudifu I guess not, I'm more used to being around the woods and I guess those would be the priority to me. Woods + a bigger lake might be awesome.

I wish I could live on the water. We own a condo in FL but it has to stay rented out since it is sooooo expensive to own it. But love to vacation there when I can.

@Confined thats beautiful.....isnt it worth selling most of your things so it becomea afforafable to go and live there and find a job there in the surroundinf areas

@wudifu I would have to make $300,000 a year to afford to live there. Even if I sold everything I had, it would not be enough. Our maintence fees went up to 1000 a month plus they assess additional fees between 10-20K every year for maintence not covered under the regular fees. Not sure how long we will be able to keep this condo. Its rented out most of the year. Soon the rent will not even cover our basic expenses.

if my dream of the ocean was to work and be close to the ocean or not be close to the ocean and work near the ocean then i have to choose ocean or work and close to it but not ocean and work and close to the ocean or work not ocean and ocean
