This is a question for people that enjoy the waters but doesnt stay anywhere close to the ocean

Would u spend your whole life working just to have a dream to live at or close to the ocean one day and give up your life where you are currently......even if it means living a little below what u used to ?

I grew up by the beach and still live here. 20 years ago I'd never of left, but now I think it's time to go. Gentrification has changed everything. Even the land is sinking.

@AlchemyFox thats not a bad thing.....the oceaan would always have the characteristics of peacefullness ......anywhere else is a rat race .....stay where you are rather it wont be easy to adapt after so long living where you are

@wudifu sinking and overdevelopment isn't a bad thing?

@wudifu The ocean is one thing but the environment on land by the ocean is something different.

@AlchemyFox sinking ....i would say move to a more solid place but stillwith ocean in mind.....overdeveloped.....no not at all....more job opportunities and more place for people like me to start working there and to start a life there

@Ynotisay meaning ?

@wudifu Every beach is different. So the culture around them is different. Tropical beaches are very different than northern beaches. I'm in California and the beach culture is totally different in the south, middle and northern part of the state. It can even change within miles. So knowing what kind of culture, weather and ocean behavior you want narrows the options.

@wudifu the ocean is not just there to be pretty and walked all over. It's a sensitive piece of land with a sensitive ecosystem. You cannot tear up everything natural and replace it with concrete on sand. The land is sinking. The ocean will take it and you will have destroyed the habitat that made that area beautiful to begin with. People don't get that.

This area used to be beautiful. The tourist season was fine. But now everyone wants to live here and they won't stop destroying it. People leave their trash. It's sand and wetlands and they leave all their smelly shit. It's polluted, crowded, rude and takes hours to go to the grocery store.

No.

@Ynotisay oh so you really need to know which culture you would need to live in and enjoy

@wudifu Absolutely. 👍

@AlchemyFox The tourist season was fine. But now everyone wants to live here and they won't stop destroying it. I live in a similar environment in the mountains and I hear you. Tourism has changed the game. As has the newfound work from home people who seem to expect that things bend for them. It's always been a part of the area but the pandemic took it to another level. Visitors drive for hours to bring their shit up to a place of quiet and respect. They don't care. And that's on top of people buying properties solely for short term rental income while having zero connection to the environment and lifestyle. Prices have become unattainable. No housing for locals, businesses close and here we are. A lot of really cool environments are systematically being destroyed. Money, arrogance and selfishness drive the train. So messed up.

@Ynotisay Exactly this. And I do not agree with it at all. A certain amount of land ratio should have to be preserved. And there should be stricter codes. And there is A LOT of corruption going on because there's a ton of money to be made. The people getting rich don't care about the land. They bring in fill dirt and flood out the locals. I can't even sell my house and afford to buy another one here. There's not enough resources. And it attracts the drinkers and party people, then there's nothing family friendly or wholesome left to do.

I will never take for granted my time by the ocean but I can't go down with these morons.
wudifu · 46-50, M
@AlchemyFox i guess the people that has been by the ocean forever dont want it become like the concrete jungle.....they want it ro be the way they have always known it to be
Ynotisay · M
@AlchemyFox Neither of us are in unique situations. It's happening in a lot of areas. Locals are being pushed out. Either by cost or because they just don't want to deal with what the places they loved have become. And what sucks most about is those who really 'get" those environments are the ones losing out. As are the ones who respectfully visit for the right reasons. So I'll say it. Fuck short term rentals and fuck the way money for the rich takes precedent over natural environments and people's lives. Once the line is crossed you can't get it back.
