What's the difference between them if any?

Naturism is usually considered public whilst nudism tends to be in specific places.

@meJess thank you your answer makes most sense

It has changed definitions in many ways over the years.

My sister-in-law was a naturalist in the 70s and she refused to even put on a bikini. Not just because she was modest either and she was extremely modest.

Her definition was what is considered today: a "holistic" lifestyle.

So you are going to find many ways to define the terms: naturism, naturalist, naturalistic, naturalism and even nudist and hedonist.

Think swingers on the last and there are different versions on that as well. Not all hedonist have sex or are nudists.

I find it ironic that many want to fix the definitions. It's mostly to control others behavior. Control the definitions, you control the behaviors.

Examples;

Why doesn't the word "Love" have nine different definitions, like in Greek? 🤷🏻‍♂

It makes sense to have at least those nine, if not more.

Oh right! You can't associate "Phila" as a mental disorder then. Forbid that you "love" your friends differently, than you love your children: "Storge".

Phila in Greek (Φίλα) means "loving" or "kindly," and it is derived from the Ancient Greek word φίλος (philos), which means "dear" or "beloved."

It is often associated with affection and friendship.

The Greek word "storge" (στοργή) means affection or love, particularly the natural bond between parents and children.

It refers to familial love and the instinctual affection found within family relationships.

Initially Naturism was a more philosophical approach to nature and the outdoors which embraced the concept of being nude in public places. Some of the earliest naturist groups has cery strict codes of behavior and included no smoking or drinking.
Nudism was a more relaxed practice of being nude with others in public places (not necessarily outdoors and not having any specific codes of behavior).
Naturist groups have a more relaxed outlook these days, so there's not much difference between the two now....and they are often used interchangeably. Another reason for this was that Naturists were often confusex with Naturalists (who were into nature, but not necessarily into being nude in public).
I sometimes refer to myself as a Nudist, and I'm a member of The Naturist Society.
Nudism is more of an act and naturism is more of a lifestyle. Naturism is about connecting with nature and being in a natural state, hence why it tends to revolve around being naked in nature (outdoors). Nudism tends to happen in specific settings.

It's also worth drawing a distinction between both of those things and exhibitionism. A lot of the claims of nudism and naturism online are actually just exhibitionism. If you want to impose your nudism on others for sexual thrills then you're an exhibitionist.
Nudists really appreciate the places they can go naked, so do naturists. There's only a difference in emphasis - I'm nude, this is a place to be nude - the nudists think about themselves first.

The term naturism is a euphemism for nudism. Everyone assumes that nudists are swingers while naturism does not have quite the same connotations. I was a nudist long before the term naturist became common.

I don't feel there's a difference at all. Naturism is just a word to seemingly hide that you enjoy to be nude. I think nudism is the proper term to use.

not sure if thas true but how i feel about it is nudists are naked for fun, naturists are naked for a purpose
SJones48 · 41-45, M
@Milkshake I guess I’d identify as a nudist
Both generally attract old men

I suggest you Google both terms 🙂

@Anniedlr thought it might be a good idea to get people's thought on it

Nudism is just a part of naturism. Naturism is living by the laws of nature like all other creatures.
