I Was Spanked With A Wooden Spoon

@Rachely3 My brother and sister could hear and if my dad was home, he could hear or see. We kids learned fast not to try to watch. If mom saw you while she was giving a spanking, then you were sent to your room to wait for your turn with the spoon. I only tried it once!

Worst for me was getting it on the palms of my hands. I think my mother did this because it didn't leave marks. I remember having to hold up both hands with one supporting the other. Any pulling away and it "didn't count." Standard dose was three on each hand but sometimes six. Six was crippling for hours afterwards. Mum was not otherwise a cruel woman but I don't think she had any idea of the agony she inflicted on us.

Yes! I hated that moment when Mom reached for the utensil drawer in the kitchen as she was delivering a scolding tirade. My kids understand by three. They use sentences, potty, can follow commands so it seems appropriate. That said I wouldn't spank for something they did not know. Like coloring on the wall. If I never told them not to at 3 they don't understand. But if I told them not to and to help me clean it and they said no then I would spank.
