It's a very new occurrence that was essentially created as a strategy by Trump. He started floating it out during the debates with Clinton and, because his audience locks in to conspiracy, mistrust and fear, he found his footing. If you see it now it's coming from those who've gone all-in with him and what he represents. There's never been any evidence of widespread voter fraud in modern America. But as long as you say something over and over it becomes true in the minds of many.

@CheekyBadger So when you have a POTUS on the phone telling a state to FIND me 11000 votes so i dont lose YET not one of his minions think that is wrong... come on now... its recorded ..its played back and he denies he said it..WTF.... yet we can not hold #45 accountable... NOW work with me here.....
How the heck do you account for MILLIONS.... all on one side dem or rep. when those that count votes are a mix of dem and rep(vote counters)... dems dont count votes just for dems and reps dont count votes just for reps. Can you truly imagine what it would take to align ALL of that to actually work. OR am i THAT blind? i think i can see at least a bit.
If i dont like who won #45 i am not crying (well i was when #45 won LOL) but i said he won fair and square and it is what it is...and for some reason his minions just drink up his BS like no other... A person that praises Hitler and loves dictatorship so much that he wants to bring it HERE to USA... yeah NO... you get a total of 8... i dont care who the POTUS is and how good our country is doing you get 8 then get the EFFF out and thank you for doing your job. That is how our system is set up and for someone to try to over throw that ... just red flag after red flag and maybe just maybe #45 minions are the ones with blinders on.

@CheekyBadger OK. But you're talking "if." All that lives beyond a whole lot of firewalls and contingencies. "Is" matters. And the "is" is that there's no evidence to support any kind of fraud or rigging. Anyone believing that rigged elections take place can be discounted immediately as someone who has chosen their beliefs over the facts. There is no gray area.
CheekyBadger · M
@Ynotisay i saw evidence of a distinct pattern of behaviour in 2020 in certain places that wasn't conducive to a free and fair election. This ranged from widespread media coverage (or lack thereof) to individual actions taken to manipulate results directly or rules made up by the incumbents that disadvantaged their opposition. Saying that all this didnt happen is effectively calling those who gave witness testimony under oath of such things purjurors. How many of them have been prosecuted for perjury- none that i have heard of. Absence of court cases doesnt mean much, many cases were brought to court but in general courts simply didn't hear these cases that were brought before them for technical reasons. It seemed to me, as an outsider, that allowing these cases to proceed wasn't in the interests of the wider state as it would call into question the way that elections are run.

Generally speaking, they don't say that. Or at least, they didn't used to. Prior to the 2016 election it was generally accepted that our elections were legitimate. There was a debate (which is still ongoing) about things like gerrymandering and disenfranchisement, but when it came to the votes themselves, it was agreed by both sides that they were legal and sound, with neither missing nor extra votes. The closest thing to any kind of believe in illegal or fake ballots in any significant numbers was the 2000 election, where it was thought that in one district the ballots were unintentionally confusing, and that voters might have made errors completing them and/or counters might be misinterpreting them. There were certainly no claims of nationwide fraud.
black4white · 56-60, M
@CestManan yeah...remember one district was going to make or break the entire election for president of the USA!!!! yep LMAO
CestManan · 46-50, F
@black4white I bet somebody somewhere is still fighting over that garbage.
black4white · 56-60, M
@CestManan Sad but true... LoL
melbeacher · 61-69, M
It seems to be the GOP candidates that are saying that. I is becoming their mantra.
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
@melbeacher it is certainly not limited to them.

In the USA, only one party's candidates are going that route. If it's happens on the Dem side, it's rare, and not accepted by the party.

@MistyCee Did you see Kari Lake's comments? The MAGA is OK with it.
Reminds me of this joke.
A hard core MAGA supporter died. Other than that, he lived a clean life, so St Peter is waiting for him at the pearly gates. On his way, he turned to St Peter and says "Hey, I have question. Were the 2020 elections legitimate?", St Peter replies with "Yes, and Joe Biden won in a fair election". The guy mumbles to himself "I know there was a conspiracy, but I had no idea it went up that high".

one of the numerous ways in which they've been trying to snuff out democracy. Moore v. Harper is next.
TrashCat · M
These people refuse to believe they are the minority and that they lost. These are facts. Their claims of rigged elections are easily debunked and when that happens, they scream "fake news" like little pissy brats.
midnightrose · F
It's not a perfect system and it can be toyed with and has in the past. Certain people were prevented from voting, others were intimidated to vote a certain way and sometimes they could redraw district lines so they would win the vote even though they got less votes overall. It isn't out of the realm to think it can happen. There are things in place to prevent a lot of it now but that doesn't mean people can't find other means of fixing a vote.
@midnightrose I suppose its silly to think someone would say, I think it's rigged, but it's better to accept a rigged election and try to fix it then to shut down the kitchen over spilled milk.
Arguably, that's what Gore, Abramson, and maybe even Trump eventually did, sort of, but they all went to different degrees before they moved on.

Why do they make promises they can't or won't keep ?
black4white · 56-60, M
@MarineBob Right...the million $$$ question right there
hunkalove · 61-69, M
The only reason JFK beat Nixon in 1960 was because his father bought the votes in West Virginia and Illinois. I suspect this happens frequently. American politics has always been about greed. Even FDR, who did so much to get us through the Great Depression and WWII, made sure his pals got richer.
black4white · 56-60, M
@hunkalove thats a whole new thread... LMAO
bijouxbroussard · F
Honestly, I don’t know of anyone saying that seriously before Trump. Even when Gore questioned the 2000 results, he accepted the findings and conceded gracefully.
Even with the questionable interactions between the Trump campaign and Russian operatives, Hillary conceded with no argument. Trump made the comment before the election that if he lost it would be because of fraud. So either way Trump was going to be a sore loser, and that’s the bar he set.

At base, I think its mostly about respect for the system, society, and others.
At some point, some folks see their own interests as being more important than playing by the rules, or trying to fix the rules even.

Fungirlmmm · 51-55, F
Was it rigged? We as s country need to have a set of rules that govern all voting and not accept the BS that some people sling.
black4white · 56-60, M
@Fungirlmmm I am saying that now..EVEN before votes are kicked off candidates start off with the if i dont win its rigged... REALLY ...are you that confident you will win because if so a confident person will NOT say that they just beat you.
btw..Fungirlmmm ... i hope life is treating you well and nice to see you

@jshm2 Its just became more apparent in the past 2 elections...
CestManan · 46-50, F
Politicians and govt typically have the maturity of little kids. You know how kids always say "they cheated!"
black4white · 56-60, M
@CestManan Excellent point !!!! LMAO
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
They (he) say it even before the election to get people primed for the conspiracy theories.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
Why can't democrats be satisfied and not cheat? Just accept the elections as the will of the governed.
Biffed · 31-35, M
it's all rigged, my dude.. that's why i drink rain water and live in the woods
black4white · 56-60, M
@Biffed I will locate you and bring my tent... my hunting gear... some water and we are set...

This is the land of creeps and crazies, acting like pieces of shit is the new normal
It doesn't matter what's true, they will do anything to hold power. Having power helps them stay out of jail. Just look at Trump. A Republican was just caught masturbating outside of a playground but his name is still on the ballot. The US is so tribal he can still win because he has the R in front of his name.
Ducky · 31-35, F
Sore losers, enough said.
ReneeT · 61-69, M
It's entitlement. When we give out awards to everyone who participates in events then that sends the signal that even if I lose I should be winning.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@ReneeT I know this is going to come as a disappointment to the folks on the left who cheer me on here, but I think participation trophies are a stupid ass idea.
black4white · 56-60, M
@ReneeT @LordShadowfire +1 on participation trophies...yeah thats just dumb life dont care and when you race you either win or lose...
As for the entitlement... spot on call.... thank you

The presidential election of 1800 very nearly resulted in a civil war according to historians. Also the election of 1824 was hotly contested. There have been others too.
Roundandroundwego · 61-69
That's how things go. America was founded by owners of people. It's not legit to never was popular.
Jeffrey53 · 51-55, M
Just like sports if a team loses they blame refs or umpires for making bad calls
black4white · 56-60, M
@Jeffrey53 Rarely .... sports players know that one team wins and the other loses.... yeah they might fuss at times but ultimately they have always accepted the defeat and move on.
Roundandroundwego · 61-69
Mostly they don't say that. The media is privately owned.

Only the Fascists do that.

I've noticed it more in Republican candidates than Democrat candidates. I think it's because as a general rule, people who vote Republican tend to feel like they aren't heard, as opposed to people who vote Democrat.
I could, of course, be wrong.
I could, of course, be wrong.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@MistyCee I know. That's why they don't feel like people hear them, because they spout bullshit. I'm just saying, they're more likely to believe that there's a conspiracy to silence them.
@LordShadowfire I hear you, but having known both Republican and Democratic candidates, I really don't believe that most of them believe as much in a conspiracy to silence them or even the beliefs of their supporters as they pretend to.
The Republicans, by and large, at least the ones I know and can relate to, tend to be less bombastic and revolutionary in terms of fighting against liberal/intellectual/globalist conspiracies and more realistic.
Same thing for the Democrats, although I'll confess, I don't pal around with AOC types.

@MistyCee I guess I should have been more specific. Republican voters are more likely to be gullible enough to fall for the conspiracy bullshit. I very much doubt most Republican politicians actually believe what they are spewing.
DDonde · 31-35, M
It's more of a recent problem mostly limited to one side.
