We'd still be the Republic this country was designed to be; not oppressed by a over reaching, centralized, federalized government
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@wildbill83 Which is the we?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Well they didn’t. But it cost America dearly getting us into war debt.

@cherokeepatti That's sad :(

@Nimbus They say that the Federal Income Taxes we have been paying for over a century weren’t even used for American infrastructure etc. Before we didn’t need an income tax to pay for things that needed it. The money came from import taxes on goods that were shipped here.
@cherokeepatti Not to mention it resulted in the 14th amendment, ratified in 1868, which essentially neutered the 9th and 10th amendments, which those two guaranteed the states had more power over the federal government, the 14th gave more power of the federal government over the states, i.e. Cannabis laws.

Slavery would continue. The southern states literally had it in their constitutions they wanted to keep slavery

Much less than you think because Reconstruction was such a failure. Slavery would have died out on its own eventually with industrialization and boycotts.
Oh, and statues of Confederate generals. Scratch that, that happened, anyway!
Would also depend on whether blacks would have been allowed to travel to the northern industrial cities. If not, the US would be very different.

I don't think it would be pretty!

@BritishFailedAesthetic I once had a dog like that.

In the near term, probably expand into Cuba and the Caribbean possessions the US took from Spain. In the long term, probably expand through Mexico and Central America all the way to South America that they had their eyes on.

William Walker managed to invade Baja California, MX around 1853 with 150 mercenaries to create The Republic of Lower California and Sonora. He also invaded Nicaragua in 1855 and seized control by 1856 and made himself President of Nicaragua. He was eventually ousted the following year by the U.S. Navy. There's a movie about him called "Walker" based on his exploits.

I don’t know how things would be but I do know we would have a different flag.
It would be interesting to find out. To see the adjustments and the ability for them to adapt to modern society. It would be different though.

Democrats would love it all the way to 2023 and America is not what Trump wanted to be. Probably living in a different Country. The Union Trade with the Brits will continue and easily ending world war 2. The U.S. would probably wouldn't interfere in the war of Europe Since We continue to strengthen U.K.'s arm forces. Although many Nazi Officials will still be running around establish certain foreign assets just like the usual now days.

If the South had won the war, the US would not be a world leader. It would be a laughingstock.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@specman True enough, but the Republicans chose that path for their party.
specman · 51-55, M
@windinhishair ha! ha! You had to take a sucker jab! Lol
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@specman You teed it up beautifully. And it is true. Other countries look at our representatives like MTG, Boebert, Gaetz, Jordan, Comer, Biggs, and others and just shake their heads in disbelief.

🤷♀️.... History would of been written differently.
specman · 51-55, M
I have been thinking in todays world all the left wants their type of equality which is usually one sided, so let's give them true equality and let the South rule like they won. Just to be equal and actually see.

Capitalism would be threatening the very life of the planet! War would be the biggest project in all America!
Totally not like now.
