This is great news for the USA. As a person that has been buying steel for 40+ years, I have watched the degradation of steel manufacturing as US manufacturers were closed and we were forced to buy steel from China and Mexico.
Unfortunately Trump has been involved, so I have a feeling that Democrats may stop this plant from being built, rather than allow Trump a win.
How many new factories did Trump promise that didn't materialize?
Here is just one of Trump's promise of new factories.
Trump and his administration promised a $10 billion investment by Foxconn to build a new manufacturing complex and create 13,000 new jobs. Trump and senator, Ron Johnson showed up at the proposed site holding golden shovels while promising to build the eighth wonder of the world. What happened - they dug a hole with those golden shovels and then that was the end of the project. The failure of the Foxconn facility is part of an over all downward trend in manufacturing under Trump’s administration.
@SunshineGirl I thought I would add this bit for a hoot. The photo is Trump breaking ground for Foxconn. The funny part is after Trump took the ground out of the hole he mugged for the cameras - then threw the ground back in the hole. That's Trump efficiency. Cheers!
@SunshineGirl The BS part was that it was being portrayed as if it were Trumps fault. Unlike the failed Obama jobs, Trump did not invest 100's of millions into failed projects.
Obamas projects failed AFTER the money was spent. But I'm sure the DNC got their cut.
DR-grade iron ore pellets produced at Mesabi Metallics' mining and processing facility near Nashwauk, Minn., will feed the steel mill.
The steel mill will be built in Lee County, Iowa.
Lee County is the southeastern-most county in Iowa and borders the Mississippi River.
Construction of the steel mill will create about 5,000 to 6,000 construction jobs, according to U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick.
Nearly 2,000 permanent jobs would be created at the mill, he said.
It would generate about $95 billion to the U.S. economy, Lutnick said.
Essar Group, the parent of Mesabi Metallics, will finance construction of the steel mill, Lutnick said.
A total of about $18 billion will be invested to build the Minnesota mine and processing facility along with the $15 billion steel mill, according to Mesabi Metallics.
Awesome! I still remember driving through Pittsburgh, PA with my parents when I was a kid...home of the steel industry back then...and the smokestacks were EVERYWHERE and the sky was just BLACK. Hopefully with today's smokestack technology that won't happen in Ohio.
I remember when Pennsylvania was the largest producer of steel. When I was in college, we went on a tour at Bethlehem Steel. This is great news fir America and Trump
@DogMan lol, is that all you got from my comment? You've just shown how those on the right are incapable of understanding very much at all. I'm not in the least surprised. Thanks for proving my point 👍
The White House stated the mill “will be fully vertically integrated in the U.S. (from iron mining through steel production).” It also said the facility will be able to support “important defense sector requirements for high-grade steel.”
