What makes people want to mass murder?

I think it has to do with upbringing. When I grew up in the 60's and early 70's I was punished when I did
something wrong. I had discipline at home, and I didn't get credit for anything I didn't achieve. No participation
trophies. I failed often and I knew what it felt like to fail at a young age. I was made fun of as a kid, as were all other
kids. I could take criticism and I could give criticism. My parents were not my friends, they were parents and they
took raising me and my sister seriously, They prepared us to be adults. I may be way off base here ,But It seems like much of this has gone by the wayside. I feel that kids are coddled, they are told they are great when they are not.
They do not have discipline at home, and are not made aware of their failures growing up

Once they get a little older and fail, and get criticized by others and do not have their parents backing them they feel like losers for the first time in their life. They get made fun of by co-workers or others and they can't handle it.

I have some other thoughts on this but I have to get back to work. Let me know your thoughts.

I’d agree with you about people I meet online. Especially SWers.

But thankfully there are enough real life examples of younger people who have a strong work ethic and enough grit not to be deterred .

@AdmiralPrune Yes, I agree there are still kids that are raised right. We need them badly.

I don’t know how much of it is environment & upbringing or how much of it is some type of mental illness. And if someone is on certain anti-depressants or mood stabilizers they can have such thoughts. It rarely gets reported in news stories. There has been research done on them in the UK and they found that some of them blunt the conscience. That seems like it could be a huge factor in such crimes. But they also did research on certain allergy meds and found similar results.

Exactly....given participation trophies !!! WTF for....
And you can't spank kids today....why the fuck not ?
The nuns in my grade school spanked me, and then spanked again when got home !
Lessons well learned.
Kids meed that today

@Midlifemale Yes, in middle school every teacher had a large wooden paddle with holes in it
to cut down on wind resistance. I lost track of how many times I got swatted.
Big pharma meds and tv make Homer go something something..

Probably what you said. It makes them feel cheated when life's hard. They figure the world wronged them so it becomes a murder suicide situation.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@Munumbis Yes, that is how I see it. They were not prepared.

I can't put it any better than you did. I was raised the same. We were expected to participate and help with the housework. As soon as I was old enough to get my working papers, I was proud to get a job and earn my own money. We were taught respect; for ourselves, for others, and for the law.
Kids now are ignored, and left for the internet to raise. They are never told "no", never expected to do anything, yet they think the world owes them. They have no respect for anything or anyone, and they never mature beyond babyhood. They are completely unable to deal with anyone disagreeing with them, or telling them "no".

@DogMan Me, too. And I paid for my car and the insurance for it. I learned to work for what I wanted, and face setbacks like an adult. Now, everyone is on medication just to cope with being alive. God forbid they have to face any kind of disappointment, they go psycho.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@AbbeyRhode I wonder if that is also why there are so many suicides too. 🤔

I wish more kids would go in the military, it would teach them life lessons they
did not learn at home.

I read that 70% of todays kids would not qualify for the military, that is very sad.

Like you I had to pay for my 1973 PINTO I had a job all through high school
and my dad made sure I paid him first when I got my weekly check, since he
bought my Pinto for 1,500.00.

@DogMan I'm sure it is. The young people are so unprepared for life. The first difficulty they encounter, they are overwhelmed, panicked, and feel that they have no support. It's really sad.
