While Fauci has immunity and could probably admit to everything that was revealed in his diaries, that doesn't protect the dozens of staffers he employed who carried out his wishes.
Law enforcement could easily indict other members of his staff and other high level Democrats who helped with the cover up.
It also would give a lot of fodder to the Republicans as they go into the Midterms worried about their re-election chances.
I'm sure it was very uncomfortable for him, but Fauci really had no other choice but to plead the 5th.
He will likely be held in contempt. Not that anything will come of it.

I guess if we never find out where it came from, or how it came about, we will just have to wait until it happens again. And then science will just make more guesses and shrug their shoulders.
It's funny how science de-platformed people for dis-information, but we still do not know anything about it, or IF it was dis-information. Everything Fauci said about it was a guess, but if anyone said something different, it was wrong. How did they known it was wrong, if they did not know where it came from, or how it happened?
@DogMan It was developed in the Wuhan Institute of Virology who entire existence was dedicated to "gain of function" research and was actively developing viruses similar to Covid 19.
The only question that still remains is if it was released intentionally, or escaped accidentally.

Knowing that an elderly relative died alone due to the incompetence and cover up regarding the Covid 19 pandemic would be a real tough thing to get through. Fauci was the ultimate authority on this, and he failed miserably.

@emiliya Thank you. I was very fortunate that during the Covid 19 pandemic, none of my elderly relatives caught a serious case of it.
All of my grandparents were dead by the time the pandemic happened. I was actually grateful for that, I'm not sure how I would have responded had one of them been stuck in a nursing home due to Covid.

If the Democrats were protecting someone, why did both Democrats and Republicans vote UNANIMOUSLY to pass the COVID-19 Origin Act in 2023 (during Biden’s presidency, I might add), which forced the declassification of intelligence regarding potential links between COVID and the Wuhan lab?

@Waveney The Journal reported that Defense Department experts John Hardham, Robert Cutlip and Jean-Paul Chretien conducted a genomic analysis that found evidence of human manipulation of the virus. It also concluded that it was done using a specific technique developed by the Chinese at the Wuhan lab. They suggested that the Chinese appeared to have altered the “spike protein” that enables the virus to enter the human body in a “gain of function” operation.
They were reportedly told to stop sharing their work and warned that they had to effectively get with the team. Later, the three wrote an unclassified May 2020 paper that was prevented from being shown outside the medical intelligence center.
At the same time, letters and articles that dismissed the lab theory were organized for public consumption. The government worked with social media companies to censor those with opposing views.
I guess that is the scientific way. They don't know where it came from, or how it came to be, but the science is SETTLED. Any new ideas are quashed.
