"Belonging" is the New DEI

Since 2024, pushback against diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) has gathered momentum across North America. This year, that retreat has taken on a new form: the rebranding of “equity” with softer, less contentious terms like “belonging” or “community.”

What is the old saying "Lip stick on a Pig"

Leave it to the left to change the wording and pretend it's different. They are the masters at that.

I've not heard the term belonging thrown around. My place of employment still uses DEI because it's a good thing to do. Community was in use before DEI was.

@DogMan the hell are you on about? It's about unity across diversity. About recognizing merit regardless of background

The only people excluded are the bigots who don't know how to work in a multicultural environment.

That sure sounds like discrimination to me, nothing inclusive in that statement of yours.

FYI Diversity is the opposite of unity. splitting people into little groups is NOT unity.

And equity it the opposite of merit. Equity is the way to NOT use merit.

Hiring based on skin color, gender, or sexual preference is not equity.

@DogMan tolerating intolerance is a paradox. Discriminating against bigots is a recognition of their beliefs that not everyone should be included, so they should be fine with that.

It's nice that you think you live in a merit-based world where people are not rejected from the hiring process based on those things. Equity is about looking at the merits. Companies aren't passing up qualified candidates just to hire minorities in the name of equity. That's a fiction built by scared people who think they can't compete in a fair hiring market.

The term DEI was little known in Europe before Trump started wittering on about it. Now many of our corporations have renamed their social and community responsibility strategies DEI to positively contrast their values against his!

I remember back when they started rebranding job description titles.
Like the school janitor became the sanitation engineer.
I mean does that new title really get you anything?

DEI = Didn't Earn It

DEI was a 15 billion dollar industry. They could not let that gravy train get away.
