equipment is meaningless without a proficient/competent military to use them...
From it's adoption in 1980, we've used the Abrams tank in countless wars/conflicts without ever losing a single one in combat
Most of the 80 or so that were given to Ukraine were destroyed in less than a year...
And the same is true for most of the equipment given to them, they're too stupid to use them as designed, instead relying on archaic tactics from ww1/ww2 and losing them in the process.

@wildbill83 Abrams are cold war design , actually too heavy for Ukraine terain. Russian tanks are not doing much better. New long range missials are not yet known if they will change anything on long term.
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
@JamesBugman wrong, the problem is they use for for all out tank attacks (like the russians) like it's ww2. Tanks are still very effective at clearing out entrenched enemies/strongholds (as they were designed for).
@Khenpal1 the "too heavy for terrain" argument is about the stupidest thing I've ever heard. It exerts less pressure on the ground than a typical truck/suv or even a horse. Around 15psi or so. Operates just fine on sand, which is a lot softer than any terrain in ukraine

@wildbill83 Halve of the time its mud and rain . Germans learned the hard way . The modern T-90 is a medium tank but starts at around 46 tons,The M1A2 Abrams weighing around 68–74 tons. Ukraine only got M1A1 Abrams. I'll give you my impressions as best I can as a former Abrams crewman who crewed the same variant that is serving in Ukraine for a bit.
I understand why they sent M1A1 SA instead of M1A2 SEP v2s or v3s. The M1A2 is too heavy for Ukraine. Even the M1A1 SA is too heavy for Ukraine and this is probably what is causing the lackluster performance of the Abrams in Ukraine. They should have taken old M1A1s, pre HA variants, given them the CROWS system where the CITV is on the M1A2 and given them the computers of the SEP v2. Hopefully this would have resulted in a tank closer to 60-65 tons that would have been better suited to the battlefield in Ukraine that would have some degree of self defense capability against drones. The problem is this would have taken longer than just deploying SAs. Spares should have been sent, and they should get working on a lighter variant that will actually work in Ukraine.

Ukraine really needs the northern winter to reinforce and re-supply. Of course "regime change" in America could effect their future there, either way..😷
SomeMichGuy · M
@whowasthatmaskedman As it already has, including DJT-1, under which Puti-baby was encouraged to continue his assault on Ukraine.
CactusJackManson · 51-55, M
@SomeMichGuy By DJT-1, I assume you're talking about Trump's first administration. Putin did not invade Ukraine during those four years. He invaded during the disastrous Biden folly. Also:
Obama: "I will have more flexibility after this election."
Medvedev: "I will transmit that information to Vladimir."
There went Crimea.

@CactusJackManson
I did NOT say Putin invaded during DJT-45.
I said DJT encouraged Putin to do so by trying to destroy NATO, the US's position as a leader, etc. DJT has no understanding of our real power, its bases, etc. So he created an opening for Beijing, an opening for NK, an opening for the Syrian madman, an opening for former minor KGB official Putin, and even an opening for Israel to do as it pleased wirh the Palestinians.
He brought us low in the world's eyes (except for the dictators).
Biden restored the confidence of our allies & friends by keeping America's word with respect to Ukraine.
DJT-47 has destroyed trust in America in various ways, including breaking America's word with respect to Ukraine...

30 50-year-old jet fighters? I'd be quaking in my boots if they were coming for me, but the Russian military is a bit more robust
3Dogmatic · 46-50, M
There will be no winner, the EU will see to that. Russia will outlast the Ukraine will to fight. They are already conscripting 60 year old men to fight. War is ugly and needs to stop, but the EU wants to grind the Ukrainian people down to a pulp.

@newjaninev2 “russia will fall apart socially, financially, and militarily. The process is already well advanced.”
Can you expound?
Is it well advanced? Does it exist? Your prediction is a pipe dream.

@degraded Yes, it's well advanced. The kremlin cabal is running out of ways to hide the reality - even russia's traditional Potemkin self-deception has its limits.

@newjaninev2 What do you want me to say? I have read stories about Dresden. You will know it was burned during WWII. An onlooker saw a woman running with her baby. She tripped amidst the panic and the baby fell into the flames. You have anything to say about that? These are the horrors of war. They are horrors that can be avoided. No young children and teddy bears have to be bombed. Why can't Ukraine be neutral? Why do they flock to the enemy?
Where does vengeance get us? I thought you believed Old Testament was nonsense. It seems you believe in an eye for an eye. An eye for an eye will make the world blind.

Because the russian terrorists have been invading their country for eleven years and if Ukraine stops fighting their country will be destroyed, their identity will be erased, and their population will be exterminated.
russia simply will not stop.
russia's standard procedure has always been to deny any intention to steal, then steal as much as possible, and insist it now belongs to them. When the response causes them problems, they offer to return part of what they stole... leaving them with a nett gain. In the ensuing pause they quickly reposition themselves, return and steal what they gave back and as much extra as possible. When the response causes them problems, they offer to return part of what they stole... rinse and repeat.
Over and over and over... it's what russia has always done, but they're just starting to realise that this time nobody is going to play that particular game with them.
russia will be stopped, and driven off every square centimetre of Ukraine's land. Once the terrorists are returned to their 1991 borders the consequences of their aggression will arrive.

@newjaninev2 You know Putin did not get out of bed one day and decide to enter Ukraine on a whim. US meddled in 2004. Yanukovych was ousted. He returned in 2010. They ensured he could no longer lead again in 2014 and put government favorable to them in power. Why? He refused to go the European way. He chose to remain loyal to Russia. What followed was a coup. Do you remember the events? I do. I was in my early teens. There were mass protests across Ukraine. Terrible division and violence. The pro-Westerner versus the pro-Russian. It was a mess, and Russia did not create it. Your ilk created it. And Ukraine was naive and silly enough to entertain it. They were not trying to be independent. Ukraine was independent. If it were about independence, they would not be falling to their knees before Europe and USA. They are looking to be their mistress. Is this what we call independence now? At least they in Palestine can stand on their own two feet. Ukraine is a miserable, weak traitor. Those who think they need to go the Western way to be civilized are fools. What do they want? To join EU and become like Europe? This is the epitome of stupid.
“if Ukraine stops fighting their country will be destroyed, their identity will be erased, and their population will be exterminated.”
Putin wants Donbass and to keep Crimea, you hysterical fool. No one is destroying Ukraine's identity or exterminating population. Well, maybe they are exterminating population...by dragging out war and spurning agreement.

Not nearly as much as Rump has/is, and Rump has a much more likely survival rate (sadly)

It’s a proxy war, Russia vs America and Europe, Russia have beaten them, it will all be over, within 6 months, Ukraine just happens to be the place, where the battle has been fought
ididntknow · 56-60, M
@newjaninev2 please explain why you don’t know it’s wrong, where do you get your information, CNN , MSNBC ?
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@ididntknow You appear unable to support your claim that my summation of the situation in Ukraine is wrong.
So, once again...
After eleven years of invading the sovereign democracy of Ukraine, russia currently infests 18% of Ukraine's territory - less than in 2022
russia is bleeding to death in Ukraine and making no headway while taking enormous losses.

Seriously? You understand that the USA just broke a peace treaty with Russia and deployed nukes to Germany, here?
It's time for Russia to respond.

@Roundandroundwego the only treaty that russia has not broken - the only treaty - was the von Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact with Nazi Germany

@newjaninev2 Only until Russian troops invade Germany, reaching east Berlin.

@dubum ignoring Russian security is war! You totally got this. You just need five years to build the missiles and you can fight for a week.

Well, it will only harras Russians airdefence if they produce a lot of it.
