Ukraine is already going through the accelerated process of becoming a NATO member which means it could happen inside the next 18-24 months.

I voted No because unless NATO has changed its own laws, a country cannot join NATO while at war itself.

Ukraine also wants to join the EU, which is a political and economic, [i]not[/i] military, alliance; but the EU has told the country it will be welcome but must put its own house in order first by rooting out corruption that has dogged it for a long time.

@ArishMell Realistically both are just justifications for western support of the proxy war in Ukraine. Anyone who looks at either option seriously knows they are not serious.

That is why the EU deal that was the excuse for the Maidan coup was shelved the day after the coup.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Only, it is not a "proxy war", is it, as might be argued for is the case in Yemen.

President Putin decided he was going to finish what he had started by annexing Crimea, and sent his army in, thinking it would all be over within a few days...

He didn't bargain for the Ukrainians themselves doing their best to fight them off, and for the "West" supporting Ukraine. Nor, apparently, had he expected his actions would drive Finland and Sweden into joining NATO - with which they were allies anyway although nominally neutral.

It was almost as if this former KGB officer thought he could just take back whatever he wants of the former USSR empire, and no-one would stand in his way.

I am not the one pretending that saving a corrupt American colony is some noble quest. And I am not the one pretending history started in Feb 2022.

And it is hilarious you are still gaslighting everyone on something even the EU admitted a decade ago and the Washington post just admitted officially this month.

But hey I am sure you can spin fighting Russia to the last Ukrainian and running recruitment ads for American empire.
