Isn’t that really a celebration of the only time nukes have been used in war?
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@UckfayOuyayOotay Maybe you see it that way.

Commemorate to remember particular the suffering people on all sides suffered in the war. Also to remind ourselves of the perils and costs of war to look at why they happened and try to learn from them (sadly I think we do precious too little of that currently). Celebration isn't the right term at all for me.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@SW-User Yeah that isn’t the right choice of word. Commemorate, Observances, Memorialize perhaps?
BlueVeins · 22-25
Yes, it's a good thing when genocidal dictatorships stop fighting and reform themselves into peaceful bastions of democracy. The means by which we procured that victory were very grim, but the victory itself was a godsend for human rights and development in the island nation.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@BlueVeins How will you be celebrating this anniversary?
BlueVeins · 22-25
@SimplyTracie eating babies, as usual ofc
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@BlueVeins Gotcha! You must be a hardcore republican. 🤭

While i think any war ending is a cause for celebration, i think now the conflict just needs to be remembered, for those who lost their lives, the devastation it caused humanity but also to learn from so it isn't repeated.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@SW-User Very true

SW-User
No not really and if there's a reason It should be like a anniversary or memorial day As they do in Japan like No celebration just remember it to teach next generations a great lessons.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@SW-User It is an important part of history for everyone.
Azn808 · 31-35, M
Not sure what I voted because I just clicked but I don't think its a day to celebrate. I think its more of a day we should remember and talk about the lessons learned.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@Azn808 I second that.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
Good cause to celebrate the end of the senseless slaughter of millions of lives.
Between 80 and 100 million lives were lost to that horrible war, another 200+ million were left blind, limbless, severely crippled and/or with severe physical or emotional injury. No-one really has an accurate casualty count. Such wars have a way of spring boarding other wars as the world tries to put itself back together afterwards.
The people of Japan also need celebrate that their emperor called it quits before taking all of Japan into hell with him. The brutal and merciless way they conducted the war left them undeserving of mercy. Thankfully good hearts prevailed.
This is also a good time to again thank that "Greatest Generation Ever" for pulling the world through those dark hours. God bless them ♥️

Nothing about war should be celebrated, ever.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@SW-User I agree. I kinda hope that the Americans who were involved in signing the instrument of surrender signed with a heavy heart ❤️.
Northwest · M
And we now drive Japanese cars, watch TV on Japanese TVs and Japan owns a good chunk of our national debt.
Japan learned its lesson, starting wars and invading other countries, solves absolutely nothing.
We have yet to learn that lesson.

SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@Northwest I think the US loves wars because it’s good for the economy. It does not seem to matter the lives that is lost to pay for a strong economy.
I think we’re very stupid.
I think we’re very stupid.
vetguy1991 · 51-55, M
We should remember and acknowledge it
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@vetguy1991 What’s the best way to acknowledge it?
AuRevoir · 36-40, M
50-50...
Peace began after for a lot of people..
Lot of people got hurt for the peace.. So is war..

By simply remembering the sacrifices it took to achieve this victory.
I don't celebrate war, but remembering those who sacrificed everything to do this is the least I can do.

@AlienZipper With a heavy heart no doubt. I’m not sure what to call it if not calling it a celebration.
AlienZipper · 61-69, M
@SimplyTracie
I'm sure there are heavy hearts still. War shouldn't be desired, but sometimes you're not given a choice.

Not something we celebrate, we remember.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
The guys that were there probably have a reason.
Wiseacre · F
Reason to commemorate!
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@Wiseacre How should we commemorate this day?

SW-User
No.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@jjoe01 Respect
The end of war can be a reason. But war itself is never a reason. Unless you are a psychopath.
MarmeeMarch · M

@SimplyTracie Well for a little while .
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@MarmeeMarch So many must die. So unfortunate.
ImperialAerosolKidFromEP · 51-55, M
Beats celebrating the outbreak of war
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP I personally don’t think either needs to be celebrated.

SW-User
No it isn't Tracie
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@SW-User I don’t think so either.
candycane · 36-40, F
No
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
