Commemorate to remember particular the suffering people on all sides suffered in the war. Also to remind ourselves of the perils and costs of war to look at why they happened and try to learn from them (sadly I think we do precious too little of that currently). Celebration isn't the right term at all for me.

@SW-User Yeah that isn’t the right choice of word. Commemorate, Observances, Memorialize perhaps?
