Price of gas

It is amazing how quickly the price rises when crude goes up and how slowly it drops.

I was out running errands and passed several stations, the lowest price i saw was $4.29 USD per gallon. I sort of smiled when i passed them, i drive an EV!

Trump innit?

He did this to the whole world.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@AdmiralPrune he sure did!
Softy1 · M
lol! I would have been at the pump while you drove by smiling lol
I live in the Los Angeles area, and after sitting in traffic yesterday I would like to see gas prices go to $10 a gallon

Guess you don’t buy groceries.
Waveney · M
@MrBrownstone I do. It's going fine here in my country. And I drive an EV.

How are things in your country? 😊
Softy1 · M
@Waveney where are you from?
@MrBrownstone Groceries is an old fashion term that is rarely used according to Trump

@jshm2 You think the price of "electric juice" will rise as much as petrol and diesel? And we ALL need "electric juice", whether we have an EV or not.

@jshm2 I was mostly responding to another SW chap who refused to accept anything I said as factual, experiential.

But, by saying that I am "old and not seeing things as clearly as you could when younger," is disrespectful. Age sometimes brings experiences and knowledge that younger individuals may not have had, yet. .

We both agree that too little money has been devoted to infrastructure. Despite multiple infrastructure weeks, moths, years, etc., little to nothing was ever appropriated. After covid when the country needed a boost, there was money made available to help the economy while improving the infrastructure. We see it almost daily on the roads in my state, and in travelling down the I95 corridor. The improvement in the grid, the use of bidirectional charging has not progressed, and has been abandoned by the current administration. We also both agree about the hypocrisy and corruption of the current administration.

Today's news carries a story about the firm that Trump Jr. runs has reaped a 200% return is just another evidence of the kind of corruption that this country has never seen before, while everyone else is hit with inflation that has returned with a vengeance, and epidemics of both viral illnesses which should have been prevented with appropriate immunizations, and food borne illnesses that industrial farming has failed to control.

I stopped off a highway exit for gas - high test credit card - started pumping....$5.99 !!! Whoa - 4 gallons was enough of that for me...and off I went...
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@fun4us2b Unfortunately, we are captives of what was originally called the globalization menace. Gas prices are set internationally, so even if your country has plenty of oil, you suffer.

How is your electricity generated ?
How much more did your EV cost you compared to purchasing gas vehicle ?
What will is cost to replace your batteries when the ultimately fail ?
How much are your actually saving ?

I would be saving $ 0.03/ mile of i had EV

In Sydney it will cost you $6.80 per gallon

Stop complaining how good you have it
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@NeddyKelly sorry, i think you missed the point.
NeddyKelly · M
@samueltyler2 No I see you point, you are lucky to be able afford an EV,
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@NeddyKelly EVs really are more expensive because they have not had the opportunity to factor in the cost of development and production. That is true with every new product ever introduced.

In other countries EVs have begun to overcome that but selling more and more, in the US the incentives that were introduced to help offset those costs have been removed, but there are still enough people able to afford them to raise the percentage of new EV ownership, nowhere near that in Europe and Asia, but it will likely continue to rise.

I am indeed "lucky." I worked very long hours in my profession and managed to accumulate the money needed to retire at age 74. I worked at least 60 hour weeks, often putting in over 80 hours. Is that luck? Anyway, i donate regularly to my alma maters thanking them for the headstart I got. I went to public schools and universities that really do not exist in the terms they did at the time. The current cost of education has made it far more difficult for people like myself who came from very modest backgrounds to achieve what i did. That is a very sad situation here in the US.

It's not really amazing. Any third grader could have predicted that rising oil prices lead to higher prices at the pump, but not Trump.
