Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen Admits She Was “Wrong” About Inflation

During an interview on CNN Yellen said “I think I was wrong then about the path that inflation would take.”

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen acknowledged in an interview on Tuesday that she was “wrong” about “the path that inflation would take,” as the lagging COVID-19 pandemic and Russian invasion in Ukraine have kept prices persistently high.

During an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, the network played a clip of previous comments she made in 2021, in which she said inflation would be a “small risk” and added that she didn’t “anticipate that inflation is going to be a problem.”

“Well, look, I think I was wrong then about the path that inflation would take,” the Treasury secretary said when asked about her previous comments. “As I mentioned, there have been unanticipated and large shocks to the economy that have boosted energy and food prices and supply bottlenecks that have affected our economy badly that I didn’t — at the time didn’t fully understand. But we recognize that now.”

And this is the US Treasury Secretary saying that.
How can the whole of Biden's administration be so inept?

She's falling on the sword for the Biden administration. Her job is not at risk during the 2022 elections, Biden's supporters in Congress are.

@SumKindaMunster And THAT'S why Munster is so good at what he does!
He's a specialist, a professional.

Every time I read your comments, I learn stuff - seriously.
I appreciate you.

Dont you pick on her!She admitted she was wrong, what more do you want? After all,how could ANYONE predict that dumping billions in free money into the economy would cause things to inflate?Do you expect her to know EVERYTHING?:)
Budwick · 70-79, M
@DavidT8899 David - when you're right, you're right. LOL
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M

Biden has said he intends to wreck the oil industry and drive up the price of gas so high no one can afford it.
No one has explained to him oil is needed to charge those cars, cant be recycled, and we dont have infrastructure to support electric cars.

My sense is that it's all planned and controlled by some wizard hiding behind a curtain some place. The big clue being Biden's failure to pull back on his energy policy when Russia invaded Ukraine.

It's like the big chess pieces being moved around a chessboard to corner us pawns and leave our king unguarded. The pandemic, China's behavior with it, the US's behavior, the Biden energy policy, Russia's assault on Ukraine are all but pieces in a greater master plan. Like a series of dominos, and Biden's refusal to back off his energy policy when the Ukraine domino fell assured the next would also fall.

I THOUGHT THAT FOR A WHILE TOO.
But, they would have to pretty clever to pull that off.
And, when you look at the clumsy stuff they did to try and entrap Trump
and steal the election - it's all pretty dopey.

[Took a while to dig it all out what with all the uncooperative federal agencies, but still.]

typical democrat; thinking admitting their fuckup somehow absolves them of any responsibility or obligation to fix it...
Budwick · 70-79, M
@wildbill83 Understood, but it's better than blaming everything on Putin or Trump.
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
@Budwick I mean they've been increasing deficit to record heights, printing more money non stop since biden the plandemic and devaluing dollar even more, forcing unnecessary shutdown, and they're surprised that we have an inflation problem?

job prerequisites for treasury secretary must be about the same as a wal-mart greeter.... be able to breathe...🤔
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
Yes, she failed to anticipate the price gouging-. By an order of magnitude.
So let's have austerity!
Crush the poor! Fight inflation!!!
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
Let's hope her time as Treasury Secretary is... for lack of a better word... transient.
Weird huh? Someone who can admit they are wrong.

Their not. It is all part of their plot to get us all dependant on the damn government. Fuel through the roof make us buy electric cars and not have the power grid to charge them. This administration is just plan evil.

Another day, another ditz... 🙄

Did people tell her it was wrong?

Do you intend telling us that you would do a better job?

Do you intend telling us that you would do a better job?

There is a dead cat on the road that could do a better job.
