I looked up my year (1952) on Wikipedia.

Many major events in that twelve months, including the death of King George VI (from lung cancer - he been a heavy smoker); and the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

The one nearest me though was a tragedy by force of Nature:

Lymouth Flood: 38 deaths, many other people injured, extensive property destruction.

The steep road down to the village was cut by the floods, but the water-ballast cliff-lift joining the cliff-top to Lynmouth escaped harm, and was used in the rescue and recovery operations.

An odd one in September:

English-borm comedy actor Charlie Chaplin travelled to London with his family for the premiere of his film, Limelight. The President of the USA, a Mr. Hoover, ordered that he be barred from re-entry to the States until investigated and approved by the FBI.

[Was his comedy not to J.E.H.'s taste, then? Or had it something to do with His Nibs thinking Chaplin had Communist sympathies? The film was heavily boycotted in the USA, and became a commercial failure at the time, but finally won Chaplin an Oscar 45 years later.]

@ArishMell has listed most of them but King George VI died in '52 as well. Obviously Elizabeth II began her reign at the same moment, although the Coronation wasn't until '53.

Apparently a Noreaster hit the American northeast coast and it was a very snowy cold winter of 1969 in Canada. On my the day I was born FLQ terrorists bombed the Montreal Stock Exchange.

On my birthdate all the planets in the solar system were within a 90 degree arc. It won't happen again until 2492. BTW there were 9 then.

The motion to declare independence was adopted by the US Continental Congress was adopted on July 2, my birthday, in 1776.

John Adams famously predicted that July 2 would be celebrated as Independence Day.

However, the Declaration of Independence went through editing and revision for two more days, and it was formally adopted on July 4, 1776.
