Not precisely, but somewhere between the Outer Banks and Mayberry (Mt. Airy, NC). Part of my late wife's bucket tour; she died the following year. She had read so many romance novels set on the Outer Banks she wanted to see it, was disappointed it did not match the fiction, so we went exploring and wound up in Mt. Airy, the hometown of Andy Griffith and a model for much of the Mayberry TV show, that today has a large tourist industry built around the show. There was a motorcycle rally in town, and I could just imagine Barney Fife (Don Knotts) going out to "nip it in the bud".
I would have been at home or at work. Short of going back 16 years of calendars, diaries or rota’s I’m not sure exactly. I remember that year very well, it would have been 3 weeks before I went on a cruise ship to the Baltic.
It was a Saturday. I worked at a dry cleaners from 8:00AM to 6:00PM. Then I read and ate popcorn and watched Fawlty Towers. Bed at 8:00. I wrote all that down in my diary.
