Further reflections.

You could see it in him. Charlie Kirk was a good man. A good person. His face carried certain pleasantness, the kind you cannot feign. He was curious, he asked questions. He had enthusiasm. A childlike innocence. Most of all, he was a believer in Christ.

What a terrible loss.

I literally never talk politics and rarely pay attention to them at this point because it's just all so divided and full of accusations and argument, things are just so whacky. But. I watched Kirk videos today and even though I may not always agree with him, it is apparent that he was only out to debate and that is his right as it is everyone's right. I saw a few things posted about his death that will be true. I'm honestly really, really shook by this event and people's responses. There is no room for such violence and hatred. The people responsible for murder are only making things worse for everyone, not to mention full of evil. Why can't they fight Kirk by doing exactly what he does, going out and talking to people, gaining more on their side? Why did it have to come to murder? How is that okay and how is that helping anyone? It's cowardly. Humans have the capability to feel emotions and make choices based on them, using common sense, knowledge of right and wrong, good and evil. We are animals, but we are more than animals. We are capable of HUMANITY.

"You cannot silence an opinion by taking a life, you only prove its weight"

@Notsimilarreally
Just because gun control is obviously needed does not mean it's okay to kill those that disagree.
I never advocated killing Kirk; please don't try to imply that I did. What I'm saying is that I am about 2500X more concerned about the killing of 2500 children per year than I am about the killing of Charlie Kirk. I value EACH of these tragic losses EQUALLY.

Judge a man not by his appearance, but by his deeds. He clearly had charisma and rhetorical skills. But a debater? He spent 13 years delivering essentially the same simplistic messages to students he identified as "progressive". To debate, you need to engage with the other side, listen, and evolve. This person was too invested in his own beliefs, loyalties, and self-confidence.

I am only commenting here because when I viewed some of his videos earlier this year I saw him use some pretty nasty bullying tactics to "win" arguments with college kids.

@sunsporter1649 You are all style and no substance . . just like the late Mr Kirk.

Kirk loathed empathy, he said it was a new age term that damaged society. Save yours, he'd hate you for it.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@Richard65 Here is the full quote. You are cherry picking one portion of it, and it is not reflective of the true intention of his words.

Richard65 · M
@SumKindaMunster what exactly am I cherry picking? I quoted the relevant passage. First of all, he makes a false equivalence between guns and cars. The primary function of a car is to transport people from one place to another. Its purpose is NOT to inflict injury. It's an unfortunate incidence that's set apart from the main reason for its existence. A gun is ONLY designed to maim and kill. It has no other practical purpose. Kirk cherry picked that nonsense.

Does he say it's worth it to have gun deaths as a cost to keep the Second Amendment? Yes, that's EXACTLY what he says. How am I cherry picking? He literally says it! From that, you can only surmise that he regards his own gun death as an acceptable cost to have the right to bear arms, because that enables you to protect your other rights. He must, therefore, also agree that the gun death of his child would ALSO be an acceptable cost. You're intelligent. How can you say I've cherry picked that? You've reposted it here for all to see.

News flash, not everyone agrees with this assessment. That's your personal opinion on the matter. You are making the point of guns the damage it inflicts, not the actual purpose. A gun is used to either hunt animals, or its used to defend the owner. In the course of its use, it does maim and kill but that is not its purpose. A car can maim and kill as well, and that's not its purpose in society. A chainsaw can maim and kill, but that's not its purpose.

Does he say it's worth it to have gun deaths as a cost to keep the Second Amendment? Yes, that's EXACTLY what he says
You're cherry picking that point and drawing your own conclusions. Do you think Kirk would agree with your summary? I don't think he would, so therefore you are being insincere and reframing the context of the quote and its meaning. I doubt very much he would agree that being murdered in a political assassination is an acceptable use of guns and we should just accept that.
Nothing warrants murder and I do mean nothing he could have said. The man was protected by the first amendment. Why are people so threatened by others enough to murder them for their beliefs … ??

Here's A Look At Some Of Kirk's Controversial Takes On Public Issues
On Gun control: In 2023, Kirk said that gun deaths were "worth it" to ensure the preservation of Second Amendment rights in the US-- which is the right to keep and bear arms.

"It's worth it to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year, so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights...That is a prudent deal," he said during an appearance at the Salt Lake City campus of Awaken Church on April 5, 2023.

Ironically, Kirk was answering a question about gun violence when he was shot dead.

On Civil Rights: In another 2023 event, Kirk had called civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr "awful" and "not a good person" as he decried the Civil Rights Act of 1965, which outlawed discrimination based on race, religion, colour, sex and national origin, and prohibited segregation.

"I have a very, very radical view on this, but I can defend it, and I've thought about it," Kirk said. "We made a huge mistake when we passed the Civil Rights Act in the 1960s," he said at a December 2023 political conference hosted by his Turning Points USA group. He claimed that the law ushered in a "permanent" bureaucracy meant to promote diversity, equity and inclusion.

Conspiracy Theories: In March 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the right-wing activist posted about the "China virus" - a phrase that was later adopted by President Trump in his first term.

In a 2021 interview with Tucker Carlson, Kirk also reportedly compared pandemic vaccine requirements to apartheid. In a February 2024 Instagram post, he also talked about the "great replacement" -- a widely debunked conspiracy theory-- suggesting undocumented immigrants entering the United States to replace white Americans.

Debunked again Sport.

Based on reports from Axios and other news outlets, Representative Eric Swalwell was not spying for the Chinese government, but was rather the target of a Chinese intelligence operation. The operative, Christine Fang, was a suspected Chinese spy who targeted multiple politicians, including Swalwell, between 2011 and 2015.

The operative:
According to the FBI, Fang was working for China's Ministry of State Security. During her time in the U.S., she developed relationships with up-and-coming politicians, particularly in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Targeting Swalwell:
Fang engaged in fundraising for Swalwell's 2014 reelection campaign and helped place an intern in his office.
FBI briefing: In 2015, the FBI briefed Swalwell on Fang's suspected activities. After this "defensive briefing," Swalwell immediately cut all contact with her. U.S. officials do not believe that Swalwell ever passed classified information to Fang.

Swalwell's cooperation:
Swalwell was reportedly not under investigation and fully cooperated with the FBI.

House Ethics investigation:
A two-year investigation by the House Ethics Committee into Swalwell's interactions with Fang was closed in May 2023 without any finding of wrongdoing.
The committee cautioned that "members should be conscious of the possibility that foreign governments may attempt to secure improper influence".

He wasn't a "good man", he spent his days spreading conspiracy theories and falsehoods to impressionable young minds at Universities and profitting from it. While I don't support him being assassinated or support political violence of any stripe, now that he's dead, I say simply good riddance to bad rubbish. tRump mandating that all flags be lowered to Half-Mast is plainly risible, Kirk was an influencer, plain and simple, not an elected official, nor a religious figure, not a Saint, just an influencer and a lousy one at that too. What's tRump going to do if Mikey the Pillowbiter dies, have a State funeral? 🙄

@ElwoodBlues Rep. Jasmine Crockett referred to Kayla Hamilton, who was killed by an illegal migrant, as a ‘random dead person’ during a fiery Judiciary debate.

California Rep. Adam Schiff dismissed the president’s speech entirely, declining to comment on the lack of applause for Riley's mother.
"There was nothing the president had to say that was either factual or truthful," Schiff said.

“Yes, I’m angry. Yes, I am outraged. Yes, I have thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House.

“Let’s make sure we show up wherever we have to show up,” Waters told a crowd in California over the weekend. “If you see anybody from that cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd, and you push back on them, and you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere.”

Harris added, "It is clear from John Kelly's words that Donald Trump is someone who I quote 'certainly falls into the general definition of fascist.'

“Donald Trump’s modern-day Gestapo is scooping folks up off the streets,” Walz, the Democratic vice presidential nominee last fall.

MSNBC used Nazi rally clips during its coverage of former President Donald Trump’s historic campaign event at Madison Square Garden in a desperate last-ditch bid to frighten voters into supporting the floundering Democratic ticket.

“Donald Trump is America’s Hitler,” Swalwell said as his first sentence upon taking the mic at the D.C. “No Kings” protest event.

Just last Monday, President Biden himself said it’s “time to put Trump in a bullseye”

NY Democratic Rep. Dan Goldman made remarks last November in an MSNBC interview with former White House press secretary Jen Psaki, saying Trump should be “eliminated” over his alleged role in the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot.

The official Biden-Harris HQ account also made a post on X in December with the heading “Trump Parrots Hitler” featuring a series of images of Trump and Hitler’s faces juxtaposed with quotes from each, which the campaign alleged were similar.

In March, Rep. Vincente Gonzalez (D-Texas), was the target of strong criticism from Republicans after he compared Trump supporters of Hispanic origin to Jews supporting Hitler.

Trump’s 2016 rival Hillary Clinton threw a few shovelfuls of coal into the fear machine during an appearance on “The View” last November, when she warned a 2024 Trump victory “would be the end of our country as we know it.”

In June of 2019, NY Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez drew widespread scorn for her careless language when she accused the Trump administration of running “concentration camps” on the US-Mexico border
