Perth worker sacked for incorrectly addressing non-binary colleague

https://www.outinperth.com/perth-worker-reportedly-fired-for-incorrectly-addressing-non-binary-colleague/

The case has been reported by The West Australia who detail that the dispute arose after an older worker in his 60’s introduced a younger worker who is non-binary as “he’, despite previously being told of their colleagues preference for being addressed as “they”.

"Reportedly" . . full context and details are required, to which the journalist will not have access as these are confidential. It seems very improbable that anyone would be fired for a single choice of terminology as the ensuing employment tribunal would almost certainly rule for unfair dismissal. We might equally conjecture that this was just one detail in an incident/pattern of bullying that contravened the employer's code of conduct.
@SunshineGirl I don't know how it works in Australia, but usually in Germany and America, which are the countries I'm most familiar with, people only get fired if they consistently misgender someone. Which makes sense, because that's workplace bullying.

@BohemianBabe Yes. This is all conjecture of course, but if the older person had done this persistently, despite being asked not to, and in an ironic and patronising manner intended to publicly humiliate the younger person, I suspect not many people would be defending him or trivialising the issue.

@SunshineGirl I will endeavour to post follow-ups

He’s being punished because of the pushback on woke.
This is woke trying to reestablish dominance.. the media will happily partake in it

He’ll win a payout eventually..

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout No, it's a speculative piece of journalism based on incomplete information.
@SunshineGirl Yup. It's still leaning close to libel though.

@Ferise1 Indeed but those people don't see it that way. However, both of them have the same kind of sphincters.

@Stephie he would have been grammatically incorrect. They is plural, I have nothing against transgender as long as I don’t have to play along.

I edited this cause in certain context it can be singular.

@Stephie actually you can call those men with a sex change well we would have to decide what to call a person who on purpose cut their original package off to put on aftermarket pieces. Since they have no ovaries they are not a female . They would be a eunuch cross or something. So to make it simple and to avoid confusion let’s just call them he or she determined at birth.
