They need to recruit thinkers and to do that the bar has to be higher than a high school diploma. We are giving guns and badges away to people that never had the fortitude to stick with furthering their education. Out here with all the overtime six figures is not unusual so can they be blamed for not attempting to enrich them selves with knowledge that could possibly save a life by not taking one. Last thought on today’s police. Being an avid shooter for over thirty five years it amazes me how poor they shoot. I have about a dozen people most I grew up with who are in law enforcement. More then half are on pins and needles when qualifying comes around. Really. Sad state of affairs with today’s police officers

@enjoyingitnow You might want to look in to the requirements for being a cop. You're more accurate when it comes to troops. And I'll bet in your 35 years of shooting you never had someone shooting back at you, right?

@Ynotisay @Ynotisay you would lose and I am saying back when most most if not all recruits had high school Diplomas and that’s when it started until all that old guard is gone and that would be difficult because that shoot first ask questions later culture is past down to recruits. I don’t want to get into a back and forth with you guys but if you were upset by me stating a fact
As I know them then that’s on you. I wonder do you need a degree to make a group like S W A T. Or similar divisions? If so that could be why they are considered a cut above the rest?

@enjoyingitnow Uvalde had a SWAT team. They didn't help those kids. They have a 9 member SWAT team for a town of 16000, WTF is really going on in that town.

I get it, get rid of cops and replace them with social workers, right?
@sunsporter1649 Minimum wage job. Why didn't the gun salesman question 1500 rounds. These guns are made to kill people. Not to blow a deer into pieces.

@Pitchblue at a 1$ per round how could he afford it?
A 10$ an hour job is not going to get you 1500$ in ammo 7-8 thousand$ in rifles 1700$ in optics mags for all that ammo each mag is 20-30$ and a 75,000$ pickup truck!
He had no plate in that Molly vest but that’s 200$ easy!
And where the hell did he find that ammo? I’m having trouble finding 5.56 nato. Which is actually designed to be a force multiplier by causing wounded on the battlefield not dead.
And just because the military uses/used the same round does not mean the m4/m16 and AR15 are the same rifle.

Because true cops at least the ones I know all own and carry guns including ARs and AKs and would not be pussies like the cops in Texas were.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@Ozuye502 You mean like arrest, prosecute, and jail offenders? What a novel idea
Ozuye502 · 36-40, M
@sunsporter1649 well the prosecution and punitive measures are not actually set by law enforcement but arresting yea
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@Ozuye502 Does not do any good to arrest and prosecute if the judge is gonna give a dude in colorado 120 days in jail after being convicted of 4 attempted murders

I don't think it was that they were afraid. The interviews I've read is that they were really pissed that they weren't allowed to go in. It was one man's decision. A school cop who oversaw six officers. Why he was in charge is my question. But I read a survey of about 15K cops and it was crazy. Something like 90% were in favor of conceal carry by citizens. It's nonsensical.

Who said the police were afraid?

@Ozuye502 If the shooter is actively shooting, then yes...go in until the threat is neutralized. If the shooter has barricaded himself, protocol changes to evacuation/negotiation.
Look...I'm not defending the police in this situation and saying they acted properly. I'm pissed off too. But I've read multiple versions of the story, and they can't all be true. I am challenging the OP's assessment that the police were afraid because of the type of firearm the shooter possessed.

@Pitchblue Everyone wants answers as to what happened. But you're the one who stated the police didn't act because they were afraid of the AR-15. How do you that's the reason?
@BizSuitStacy Waiting for answers is not going to help in this case because the Police and Abbott have lied several times. Looks like they are in cover up mode. Now I hear they won't give up body came information. There is an obscure law in Texas that is the offender dies they don't have to give up body cam video. It all sounds so suspicious. Police Chief hides and refuses to cooperate with the investigation, etc, etc.
